Ended up in Akbar. Seems ok. Bit loud, & a bit like a college canteen, but food ok.
We'd been at Happy Mondays gig, so anything feels civilised in reality.

It's not city centre but Rajput in Far Headingley on Otley Road has always been good. For an Indian place they do very good pizzas too, as my ever-increasing waistline will attest to .

If so Been a good few years since I had a curry from them (prefer pizzas these days) but never had any complaints and we used them regular. Was a little greasy but nothing exceptional, certainly not enough to put us off ordering. May have changed since, dunno.

Such a shame no-one has mentioned Hansas. But hey, vegetarian Gujarati cuisine might not have been the right thing for a group who had just been to a Happy Mondays gig. Well worth a mention though and definitely a fantastic restaurant.

Sheesh Mahal good, Bengal Brasserie better ;-)
Hansa's is excellent too and it's refreshing to go to a restaurant where virtually every dish is unknown.
This evening though we're off to Riverplate for steak then tomorrow Red Chilli for Chinese. We're pretty spoiled in Leeds for awesome eateries.

Red Chilli is one of my favourites.
Have heard good things about Riverplate but still haven't got around to visiting.

It's also a fair old trot from the 02. I agree I work in leeds quite often and my colleagues always insist on having a a curry. We went there probably 4 times a year. don't bother any more. The last madras I had tasted like it was out of a tin. We usualy have a drive out to our favourite in Bradford these days. (which I think may be an agrahs as well or akbahs somthing like that)

(Indian) friends of mine visited Miah's kitchen for the first time this weekend and gave the opinion they felt it to be the best curry house in Leeds....

Have heard good things about Riverplate but still haven't got around to visiting. Riverplate is excellent. We went after work and got a balcony table right over the canal in the sunshine, lovely ribs and steak washed down with a bottle of Estrella. Brilliant!

Setting is a lot better than Goucho, Blackhouse etc in the good weather so will give that a try in the next few weeks before the Yorkshire summer is over...

I've not tried Gaucho in Leeds but the one on Chancery Lane in London was wallet-cripplingly expensive. Nice but you pay for the privilege. What's Blackhouse like? Riverplate is excellent, the waiting staff are a bit snooty - "good choice, sir" you know the kind of thing...as if their tastes exceed your own (they probably do, to be fair). But the atmosphere is nice and the food's great. We're off to Olive Tree in a couple of weeks in Calverley, that comes with a good reputation. Ever tried it?

It was really good when I first went many years ago, unfortunately they seem to have stayed in that era and it's all a bit dated now. The food quality and service level is hugely variable depending on the day you go, the last time I went (and it will be the last time I visit) everything seemed to have been cooked days in advance and warmed in a microwave and the staff seemed to view us (one table of two amongst about 4 others only) as an inconvenience. Tripadvisor seems to reflect these mixed opinions but that could be down to expectations too I guess. Are there any alternatives in these parts for a bit of Greek?

Nice enough setting, particularly when warm enough to sit outside but on the elevated terrace. Had a lovely steak in Brasserie Forty 4 the other week and some fantastic wine.
