What's flying over York at the moment?

Red Arrows came over East York about 3.30-3.35 and at 12.15 there was a VERY big jet, looked like a commmercial jumbo - flying VERY low out over Sheriff Hutton/Malton area...
Funnily enough this morning at about 8.40 on the way to work in Malton I could see what appeared to be a large commercial aircraft at very low level to the West over Malton, wasn't close enough to get any more detail but that's what it looked like.markmullen said:
At lunchtime I saw it again, large white or grey aircraft, quite a distinctive T shaped tailplane.
Now we've got Typhoons intercepting a little single engined job over the office, very low, big high energy turns, the lot, it is very loud and superb to watch.
I saw that south of ampleforth, slowand very low. Didn't see the t tale as it was a way off but it looked vaguely dc3 in shape. Now we've got Typhoons intercepting a little single engined job over the office, very low, big high energy turns, the lot, it is very loud and superb to watch.

It certainly looks very like that, so I did a bit of a google on Bell Geospace...
'A privately held company that is the exclusive provider of three-dimensional full tensor gradient data to the oil and gas market.'
Wonder why they are flying over Rillington, repeatedly.
I wonder if it is anything to do with the potash exploration?'A privately held company that is the exclusive provider of three-dimensional full tensor gradient data to the oil and gas market.'

AFAIK you own the mineral rights below your house, so there could be some wealthy farmers / land owners in the offing.
I might own it, but I don't think my Black and Decker will drill down far enough to get to it! Buggles said:

They'll pay you a percentage though. Funnily enough was discussing the very topic in the pub on Sat night. An ex-farmer mate of mine has some friends near the big potash mine (is it Boulby?) on the coast who made a lot of money by simply agreeing to let them mine under their land.
Boulby yeah. Umm, I'm not sure I like the idea of them mining underneath my house though!
Next time I see my mate I'll get him to remind me who much it was.
