I disagree, I live 50 yards away from Kings Square and it was fine as it was.

Sorry you got caught/fined Ace T - you are not alone!
Over 25,000 others have done just the same.
Was it a £60 fine? - looks like the cameras have managed to pay for themselves ...

I was sat having a coffee on Sunday morning, about 11.00am, just next to the bridge in the new coffee shop near the library, epic bacon sarnies by the way.

In around 10-15 minues more than a dozen cars went through.

At the rate they're going they'll be able to reduce council tax soon!

Still blocked solid around past the Barbican along to Foss Islands every day mind.

On Saturday I got a letter back about my appeal - York CC have rejected it!

They answered all my points except the 'why as the registered keeper am I responsible for this as I was not driving the car'.

Which makes me wonder if they don't know or I'm not responsible?

They seem to be saying that the signs are fine from legal point of view but pepipoo think differently.

The York Press website had this a few days ago:

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/10941124.40_000_dr...

Does the law have some sort of common sense clause? *

If 40,000 people have gone over the bridge does it not show that something it basically wrong with the signage?

  • I'll ask in SP&L. Wish me luck!

Be prepared for 10p short defending York CC to the hilt.

He does it all the time, a bit like a small annoying dog continuing to bark.

Not sure what you mean ellroy, I've emailed Dan many times and he and his other half have always been very helpful.

It's regarding his unfailing support for clampers/parking fines etc, nothing against the fella directly, it's just a little tiresome.

I haven't read any of the thread you are referring to so can't comment but as I said Dan is an OK guy.

Back on topic - my post in SP&L went well!

Ace-T, how did your appeal go?

I do love the fact that for £450k you get £40k worth of groundworks and some cheap paving.

I'm in the wrong job.

Exactly, they spunk through money at an impossible rate.

Mark, if you've not seen it the budget proposals got leaked to the Lib-Dems and are in the Press today.

Somewhat large reduction in roads budget for one thing.

I'm still trying to find a full copy of that. A further £1m on highways is a hell of a lot to add on to the £1m from this year. However what can be expected from a group that is anti motorist

I know it's OT but.....

Quote from the Press article:

"Meanwhile, a further £1 million being taken out of the road budget will mean even fewer potholes and paths being repaired. While these valued services face unprecedented cuts, lavish spending continues on the unpopular 20mph scheme, the King’s Square makeover and the Arts Barge, and only last month Labour found the money to create a new £140,000 senior management role."

I'm over 50 years old but it still baffles me why we, the tax/council payers, are not doing anything to stop the waste of money.

Years ago a very good friend, talking about local authorities, said ' It's very easy to spend other peoples money'.

Spend £600,000 on 20mph signs, then cut highways by £1,000,000

Seems it might be worth an appeal, but £1.3 million worth of fines!

It amazes me that so many people are still driving over it! It's hardly a secret any more and the signs are obvious enough. If people don't see the signs then they're clearly not paying enough attention.

I visited York as a tourist on 7/8 Feb, stayed at the Monk Bar, lovely weekend. However, received a PCN this morning saying I violated bus lane restrictions on Lendal Bridge, on the start of our journey back to Wales.

I honestly cannot recall seeing signs or anything & the provided pictures do not show a bus lane, different colour road surfaces or anything. I'm pretty gutted TBH.

Being a decent person & working a law enforcement, I naturally went to pay up but then I googled Lendal Bridge & found pages upon pages on this very issue. Most of the people "done" like me are tourists & most appear to have their PCN's on second appeal.

I'm used to driving in Central London so I'm borderline anal about avoiding bus & Lycra lanes, yellow boxes & the likes.

I also have satnav which updates over the air with traffic / road restrictions / road closures and mine didn't flag anything up.

Any of you good Yorkshire people have any advice?

Cheers,

Simon

Definitely appeal on the grounds of insufficient signage and tell them this sorry affair has put you and your family off ever returning to York again......the effect it sees to be having on tourists in the main!

Cancelled without issue via the online form. I would never knowingly drive in a bus lane. York need so sort their signage out to end this farce!

I'm pleased I googled Lendal Bridge.
