Tour de France, diversions?
Discussion
The Tour will make the Great Yorkshire Show seem like a village fete in comparison. It is the biggest annual spectator event in the World, by some margin.
Yes, it will be chaos but, having followed the exploits of the Tour for forty years, I for one am quite excited that it's coming to my home town :-)

They'll have planned for everything of course, why are you worrying... oh, you're an Ambulance driver, and you're worrying. Oh. Hmmmm... eek.

Trying to plot my route from Burley in Wharfedale to Harewood house that morning. Presumably from the point the roads are closed it's not possible to cross the Tour's route either? For example it means that the outer ring road is also closed at Moortown (A61) as well?
Forget crossing the A61 all Saturday. It seems you can access Harewood from Wetherby providing you are parking.See this link for the restrictions and if you can get there before 6.30am you should be OK. (as for me I'm staying as far away as possible!!)

I'm not sure you'll be able to get to the front of Harewood House unless you set off very very early.Otherwise I'd suggest heading from Burley up to Menston, then over the Chevin to Bramhope, then along King Lane and then take the road that goes past the rear entrance to Harewood estate.
I'm rather miffed that the chart above says that the road in Burley will be closed until 5 yet I wanted to get to see the finish in Harrogate at 4. Hopefully the roads will be opened earlier given that the race will have passed through over 4 hours before.

This should be fun in Leeds, reduced access to LGI and Jimmy's, LGI is only the regional trauma centre as well as cardiac centre, We as Ambulance service front line staff are not aware of all the road closures yet! I'm on rota to work the weekend, gonna need those chill pills!!! Stay healthy.

Have they briefed you yet BadRotorFinger?
I live near Bolton Abbey which is always chocka-block with dawdling tourists at the best of times and is going to be merry hell with all these travelling lycra cretins and associated camping chimps.
As a counter measure I've decided to dig tar pits and lay bear traps around my house in 3 concentric circles of 1 mile, 5 miles and 10 miles.
Please be careful, I'd hate to see any non cyclists injured.

I'm heading to Chester from Sheffield on Saturday - i'd normally go Stocksbridge bypass, Woodhead pass - are any of these roads effected on Saturday?
I'd check the tour website but the map bit is down for maintenance!
Should be fine on Saturday. I posted a copy of the map earlier on the thread.I'd check the tour website but the map bit is down for maintenance!
Might be different on Sunday, though.

To say you're just a paramedic undermines your ability to drive under pressure in a range of difficult situations
No slur intended of course... but funny how we've just re-branded job names verbally in the last 15-20 years, but to all and sundry the meaning is the same any way.
I still hope it rains, it'll make it more exciting for the cyclists
As far as the TDF goes it will be a shambles. Not enough ambulances but 23 bikes and motorbikes. Some care homes etc are completely cut off.
Oh and Unite members are striking for most of the weekend so the TDF cover will get dragged Hull way to cover the strike.
I'm on rest days both days
Potentially a stupid question, but how can one cross Harrogate Road by car during the TDF?
I'm okay but my parents need to drive from where we live (Alwoodley Lane) to Roundhay area for work.
I can't think of any sensible way across. I think the only way would be to drive into town via Headingley and then back out the other side maybe towards Harehills or Chapeltown.

I don't think you'll be able to cross Harrogate Road/ A61 at any point, so it looks like you'll have to do your idea which involves driving round the bottom end of Leeds City centre.I'm okay but my parents need to drive from where we live (Alwoodley Lane) to Roundhay area for work.

The only other suggestion is if you've got a second car to park it on the other side of the A61 on Friday evening.

Cheers, the second car option could be the best bet.The only other suggestion is if you've got a second car to park it on the other side of the A61 on Friday evening.
