Hi, I'm staying the night at York at the end of the month and need recomendation for a nice Italian restaurant, Im not after the ' rustic ' type place but would prefer something a bit more trendy if that's the right word, but it needs to be good. Preferably near the centre as I'm stopping somewhere about a 10 minute walk away or short taxi ride away. Thanks

It has been there for 20years +. Very close to city centre, just round the corner from the Minster.

Have a look on tripadviser, as there are others on Micklegate and this one on Goodramgate, again not far from the Minster

FFS, you can go to a Piccolino's in any major town in the UK!!! banghead Corporate, chain restaurant with slightly better than average food.
La Vecchia Scuola is plush, trendy and has good Italian food. It's in the former York College for Girls, an interesting 300 year old building. The location on Low Petergate is great with pleasant views out back over formal gardens. York isn't renowned for its Italian food, but La Vecchia Scuola is the best you will find there. Enjoy.

La Vechia? That'll be the place that was hung out to dry by the environmental health. Enjoy the next morning.

Piccolono does great food, the York one being the best of them that I have eaten in, and fits the 'trendy' piece of the brief as well. The only time we ate inLa Vechia, before finding that it's kitchen was essentially a sewer, the food was a throwback to Italian restaurants of the 1980s at best.

La Vecchia was taken over by new owners in 2013. How far back are you suggesting the EHA went in?
Locally sourced ingredients and food made to order, not from a central corporate kitchen like Piccolino's, where the pasta and dough comes in frozen from Brakes!
Here are some very recent reviews on Trip Advisor. Argue with that if you like wink

Was st, new owner, now good.

Little Italy or Il Paradiso del Cibo are both great.

You'll struggle to find a "trendy" Italian in York unless you want a chain.

Haha, I didn't want to start an argument 😁 as already said, there's a Piccilonos in Sheffield so not really bothered about going there. I'll have a look at some of the suggestions given. Thanks for the recomendations btw

Del Rios is hands down the best Italian in York. No contest for food and ambience. Make sure you book though it's booked up most nights.

Which is the Italian where the ghost tours stop outside and get everyone to pull silly faces?

Nice place and good ambiance but the food isn't the best. Though I hear the owner is back in the kitchen so it might be better these days.

if you want trendy, has to be "Ask". food is good as well. Have a look at google images, the interior is jaw dropping.

Obviously it's anecdotal but I have never had a less than top class meal or service there.

My son took us there not long ago, as his student house wasn't far. It was nice.

If you class ASK as good food, you should try a proper Italian. Yes its a nice place but the food is nothing special at all.

As before, we've got an Ask in Sheffield so don't really want to do a 'chain'. Just something a bit more upmarket for a birthday treat. Ps, think we're stopping at the Marmaduke? Is it any good?
