I really don't get the issue with them? Speeding is illegal, if we get caught then it's our own fault.

They even tell us where they're putting them!
Road deaths in North Yorkshire have increased since the move away from proper policing to this approach of raising money.

As deaths rise due to this policy NYP thinks the best thing to do is spend more on more money raising vans.

When did you last see a marked traffic unit? You know, one which doesn't just hide on well sighted dual carriageways looking for people exceeding the limit, but actually go out and provide a visible deterrent to poor driving, drunk or drugged driving, stolen cars, travelling criminals? I can't remember seeing one, yet a few days a week I see them sat at the bottom of Whitwell, on a nice straight dual carriageway, or on the Malton Bypass, a straight dual carriageway with no side turnings, exits, farm entrances or any other hazard, but which could safely be navigated at speed far in excess of the limit.

Looking at it another way when did you last see a camera van in a 30 limit? Or outside a school at kicking out time, or in Rougier Street on Saturday night?

The deployment is nothing short of a cynical ploy to make money out of drivers, and has been proven, by the casualty figures for the county, to have no effect on road safety.

The incidence of bike deaths remains a concern as a minority ride like total idiots but I really do wish somebody would remove those idiotic 'shinysideup' biker posters which are littering our roads. I drive from Thirsk to Helmsley several times a week and it is rapidly looking like the road to Hicksville Alabama as it is bloody littered with these signs . They don't have any effect that I can see- daft bikers will still be daft and safe ones safe and I am sure the same applies to car drivers ; we apparently have to look out for overtaking bikes - I do -but I hope the reverse is also true.... Perhaps some bikers would also accept that some cars go round corners rather quicker than they can - we all move over carefully to let them zoom by but the reverse is rarely if ever true.
