Hi all,

Looking to move to Leeds (renting) and have been looking at Pusey, farsley and rodley. However the amount of unfurnished houses that are currently up are either really too small, really old and in need of refurbishing or have gone the day before I ring for s viewing. I'm looking at extending the search but was wondering what Bramley is like?

I'd be moving with my girlfriend who works near shipley and I work in Morley so would need to be around that area to make both commutes bearable and under 30 mins.

Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with Bramley? Is it a safe area and have some nice pubs, etc or is it a place to stay well clear of.

Hope people can help!

My mum lives there. It has a few rough parts but also some ok parts too so all depends really.

I personally wouldn't live there, Farsley or Rodley is a much nicer place in general. Calverley is also very nice but will be a bit more expensive - all depends on budget end of the day

I live in Swinnow, so just across the bypass from Bramley. Fair few chavs and idiots who can't drive.

Some nice area's, some rough areas throughout the LS28 and LS13 areas.

Farsley/Rodley is probably your best bet, on the whole, a slightly older generation live there.

Although at the moment, they appear to be doing their best to make commuting a nightmare, roadworks towards shipley, all of the major roundabouts have roadworks on them. Fun times.

Bramley is fine, just got to be careful which part. I'm living on the Astons and its quiet, only got one benefit claiming chav family on my street, everyone else works and looks after their houses.

Its fine but as said Rodley/Calverly etc are nicer but are also more expensive! Good thing about Bramley is you are really close to these arears so going out for drinks/food is cheap in a taxi. Also a decent enough Aldi in Bramley.

I wouldnt go drinking round Bramley, the Barley Mow is a definate no no, also avoid the Globe as its full of yokals. The Daisey pub is alright though (as was the unicorn - good pub, but its currently being turned into a spoons). If you do move here, i can reccomend the Daisy fisheries - the fish and chips are lovely.

Good train/bus links, although to commuteing to leeds by car is fine on a morning if your early enough, commuting home is stop start all the way but all of that side of leeds is the same.

Bramleys alright, just choose the location carefully.

Thanks for the advice. I think i'll steer clear of it and concentrate on my original plan of pudsey/farsley.

Thanks all!

Pudsey isn't all that either. That's putting it nicely.

Pudsey seems to be mostly loads of monolithic huge estates. I'm sure there are really nice bits somewhere, but if there are, then I haven't seen any. I wouldn't move from Wakefield to Pudsey, and that's saying something!

Interesting to know. We've found a couple of nice places near the shops in Pusey which seem nice. It's more about being even with commuting as I'd be going to Morley and my girlfriend would be going to cottingley.

I'm going to view a property in carverley on Monday but it's a little further out then the main pubs and bars so it would be around 15 minute walk to the pub so unsure what to do really.

I think this one the main contender at the moment. Anyone any thoughts on the area?

The Rosemots arnt bad. decent area too. i live just behind the daisy pub and daisy fisheries off stanningley road bramley. its been great to be honest. quiet, good neighbours. not had any crime or anti social behaviour. all in all a nice safe feeling place. handy for the new Aldi, bramley shopping centre and morrisons and good public transport links. the daisy is a good warm friendly pub. chris the landlord is a top bloke. Robert who owns the chippy is a good fella and does great fish n chips. best local kebabs are from la bella on swinnow lane , no shortage of take aways. and wright n shields garage on town street are the best around for car repairs etc. as long as you are at the top end of bramley you are fine.. anything below town street except the astons and i would think twice.

I can vouch for Rob at the Daisy being a top bloke, and the best chippy in the area.

Shouldn't have an issue with the Rosemonts, bear in mind Pudsey has three large high schools, so you might get a bit of noise at kicking out time if you're ever off during the day.

LS28 makes a fair difference over LS13 for insurance.

Thanks for all the advice! Need to check this chippy out. Went to view a house in carverley. It was really nice but the only thing that's putting me off is 1. The commute to Morley is going to be a bh! 2. The house has single glazing! I don't know what to make of it. Is it as bad as everyone says and does it mean the heating on 24/7?

If one of you needs to be in Shipley and the other Morley (and in the absence of a helicopter) it won't work, one of you or both is going to have a very tedious journey to and from work.

By living near neither workplace you are going to have two large fuel bills (unless you have an electric car you're going to be doing 5 - 10mpg av), what about living close to one and not the other? Flip a coin..... tongue out

I do hope that one day someone gets a bloody large bulldozer and drives it straight through Bradford and out of both sides, closely followed by some tarmac gangs and armco. It would improve matters for all immeasurably.

yes we've thought about this and the mrs has just gone for the Fiesta Ecoboost 125 which would do the trick in terms of MPG. I suspect that her commute to shiply will be a bh but the car has stop start and should be fairly economical.

Even if we did move nearer to one of the places of work... No way am i living in Bradford and Morley isn't that great either so we opted for close enough to town and in the middle for us both.

All Bratford isn't bad you know. I lived at Thackley and it was really nice, tucked away, quiet. Shipley would be an easy commute, but Morley could be a bit of a pain depending on when you have to be at work.

Rodley/Farsley/Calverley sounds the best bet to me. There's a nice flat on the canal on Rightmove at Rodley

Looked At that flat but went weeks ago. I don't know why it's still on there tbh.

I personally like the one on Sandhurst Street in Calverley. Close to the park, nice pubs, sainsburys down the road, canal and woods close by for walks (depending on what else you're into)
