Chaps,

I really fancy getting up to see some sideways forest action next weekend. Mrs Chev seems keen so thought we might try to do a couple of stages on either Sat or Sun next weekend and combine with a nice meal out somewhere. Any advice on the best spectating, how easy it is to move about, etc.? I've only been to the stage at Croft before so am mostly ignorant!

Download all you can off the tinterweb and arm yourself with a programme and some speccy info if you can.

If I'm honest, although Croft is the best place to get up close and personal with the cars and crews in the paddock, it's a bit unspectacular to watch and you'll be hundreds of yards away behind a fence. You will get a good view and see the cars a few times which you won't get in the woods.

To see this kind of event properly you need to get into the trees and soak up the atmosphere. There's something spine chilling about hearing a BDA approaching in the dark or on a misty morning with the sound echoing through the trees. (or a Vauxhall engine or ice cream chimes)

One advantage of this event is that it is worth seeing all the cars through as even a badly driven Escort looks good in the forests.

Once in the Newcastleton / Kershope complex on Saturday and the Keilder complex on Sunday it's all relatively compact so will be easy to watch two, maybe three stages per day.

Although Herrington looks a bit Mickey Mouse it is free to get in with a compact stage so I expect the atmosphere will be pretty good. First half tarmac, second half gravel.

It's a completely different route to previous years so there will be lots of experimenting going off.

Enjoy. Hope this helps.
