To be honest, fair play to them. They drove 400 miles to get to some decent roads for some hooning fun. They didn't crash, they just broke down. Shows true PH spirit though
They wanted to behave like arses in the snow on that route and could quite easily crash and cause loss of life due to this? That's PH spirit is it?burriana said:

Yeah sure one side of the coin is it's a noble enterprise in true PH style - I can see that; the other side is unfortunately the roads around here don't have laybys, it's hilly and narrow and if you break down you'll cause a big headache...add snow to that mix and if you're not in a snow equipped car (not true PH style!) you're being a massive nuisance.Jeremy Clarkson once famously said, whilst trundling through a deserted London at 4am in the new C63 AMG Black; "who would get up at 4am, just to go for a drive?"
I, and lots of other PHers no doubt in unison said "yep, me". God forbid he might have broken down having fun on those twisty, and sometimes dangerous Welsh roads when he could have stayed in that there safe London.
Sorry, I missed the point where it said the aforementioned driver was a) stupid, b) couldn't drive, c) were arses or d) even what car they were in.
PH has become such a sanctimonious place these days, which is a shame.

Are they still building a railway station there as well on the Wharfedale line?
Yes, they're. We can either stand on a cold platform waiting for an extortionately priced rail journey, stood up and cramped, until we reach Leeds city station and get hearded through the gates like lambs to the slaughter.
Or we can sit in our cars listening to Chris Evans from start to finish as we queue along the A65 into Leeds...

Though to be fair it is a pretty reliable line and cheaper than parking in Leeds... and way better than it use dot be with the 1960s slam door trains that they still had in the 90's...We can either stand on a cold platform waiting for an extortionately priced rail journey, stood up and cramped, until we reach Leeds city station and get hearded through the gates like lambs to the slaughter.

Wales is lovely. Fast, relatively well maintained lorry-free generally deserted roads largely unused by commuters. Everything most High Peak roads are not. So if you want to play in snow and haven't prepared your car properly go there instead of the Peak District.I, and lots of other PHers no doubt in unison said "yep, me". No sanctimony, just common sense.
So listening to the news to see what towns were blocked off then setting ourselves the challenge of getting to them in the old Cortina when we were nippers would have been classed as what?
And the people we stopped to help by towing and digging them out of the snow would not have had the opportunity to be grateful.

Fun. This was 40 years ago - right?. An old Cortina?? Great fun.Greensleeves said:

Very altruistic of you and I'm sure they were very, very grateful. If you'd tried that in the High Peak you wouldn't have even got up the hills. Does everyone from the South of Manchester think the UK's flat up all the way to the borders?

fk off back down south to the Derbyshire forum with your High Peak this and High Peak that.
This is the Yorkshire forum - the home of drivers who deliberately seek out snow covered hills, drive up them and then drive back down again.
Wasn't actually talking to you, but to the person who addressed my previous post. This is the Yorkshire forum - the home of drivers who deliberately seek out snow covered hills, drive up them and then drive back down again.
You can grasp that I'm sure.
We're probably talking late eighties here (although I don't think I'll ever grow out of it) with the Tina with a pair of old Colway Nora's on the back and a hobbin foot, mangle and half a dozen bags of sand and a roll of Axminster in the boot and we were good to go. It was never stillingfleet that was blocked off either, we were usually talking Holmfirth or Penistone so the hills are not too shabby, especially if you make a point of travelling via Emley Moor. The only things that stopped us were other cars getting stuck, usually BMWs; and snow which was so deep that the front valance dug in to it. Always carried warm clothes and a thick sleeping bag just in case. And some kendel mint cake cos we woz responsible. Maybe a bit stupid but would I do it again? He'll yes!
Ahhh, been there done that, although perhaps not quite as successfully. Once managed to get my WRX beached in deep soft snow in a carpark near High Force (got out of the car and watched all 4 wheels slowly turning with the car idling in 1st gear, going nowhere - wish I'd videoed that!). Had to be helped by a passer-by. Also got stuck in my RX8 near Settle for about 3 hours until the road cleared a bit. All good clean fun
I might actually have a pic of Greensleeves struggling with RWD in the snow, but it's not online. I imagine it looks a lot like this though
