I need to get the Elise out in the snow this year. I've just been looking at old pics of appropriate and inappropriate cars in bad weather and reminiscing. Going to be a bit self-indulgent and post a few, you lot do the same!

Yorkshire summer weather -

Yorkshire & Lakes winters -

RX8 went from useless when I bought it with bald summer tyres (hence stuck nr. Settle) to near invincible with Vredestein winters on it -

Imprezas made light work of snow generally, even with summer tyres

Nothing compared to the proper winters we used to have. Took a while to dig out my first car in Bradford back in the early 90's, but it did get out that day.

Not seen better than Iceland though. Studded tyres for the win!

I really want to have a go at ice driving sometime, that's on my bucket list.

Inappropriate vehicle in the plus dangerous high peak.

Appropriate vehicle in Nørway two weeks ago, but in my defence I did go on a very silly irresponsible road trip to go and find some snow.

Cheers.

Nice! I can't think of many cars less appropriate for snow than a Tamora. How far did you go?

That was a few years ago on New Years day.

Grip was fine, but when the snow was a bit deeper it started to build up a wedge on the front splitter.

Excellent work, gents thumbup

Looks like we may be in for some snow Boxing Day into 27/28th. If that's the case I'm going to go and select one of the cars, preferably one singularly ill equipped to deal with snow & ice, and then drive it to the top of the nearest hill smile

Soz about the bandwidth wink

Make sure it's only the laybys that have a dusting. wink

Best stick to your local 'hills', because the roads around here will be closed except to ploughs and tractors. It's a shame because I'm sure TVR and BMW drivers would love the experience of being helicoptered off the Peaks then being lectured by pissed off mountain rescue. laugh

A couple from the bad Winter of 2013:

I fired it up, into first gear, let out the clutch, got out of the car and stood by the side of it while it just spun both wheels on tickover :hehe

The integrale though is the perfect Winter car apart from the fact you'll be faced with a complete body restoration come Spring, great for donuts too:

Ben, text me if you fancy going out for a drive. Tom may be going out tomorrow, if not, I'm up for early Saturday. Z if dry, or Range Rover if more, er, interesting 😃

Looks like the white stuff is back with a vengeance on Tues/Wed.

Think we may need a PH evening carpark meet for some synchronised drifting.

Are there any mega carparks for hooligan snow fun in Harrogate, Al?

Sod's law. My 4wd rustbucket with winter tyres is off in for undersealing tomorrow for a week. Great

It's always Sod's law isn't it?

Not quite the same, but my nice front-wheel-drive with heated-seats and decent lights VW has been off the road all this week with an intake manifold problem and has forced me to commute in my cold draughty leaky Lotus in this stty weather.

Have quite enjoyed it biggrin

It could be worse. You could have stupidly bid on a 1991 MX5 on eBay and ended up winning the thing. I'm sure a £500 Mk1 1.6 auto import that has been parked up for several months will be fine to just jump into and drive back home for 40 odd miles in tomorrows forecasted snow.

Ah well if I crash and die at least I will be going out in a PH approved vehicle.

That's how it looked in Shaw (wrong side of the Pennines) this afternoon. My matea Defender was better suited to the conditions!

Looks fun for £500. That's less than a new intake manifold has just cost me!

How's the auto for drifting then? smile
