Hi all,

Not sure if anyone has used or heard of Uber yet but i've used them a couple of times to get to town and back and just wanted to see what other peoples thoughts on them are?

I've used them 3 times now and by far the best taxi ride i've had! i found it's so much cheaper then Amber or Arrow and black cabs. They also do a good promotion for anyone that joins via a code as you get £10 off your first fare which i used to try them out.

Never heard of them. What area of Leeds do they operate in?

I assumed you were being sarcastic,

just a small taxi company

valued at 40 billion dollars,

or if you want to be pedantic their actually a middleman between punters and self employed drivers, same as most other taxi offices around the country.

I'd be interested if anyone has used them in Leeds yet.

Went to download the app but much criticism about having to leave credit card details & erroneous collection, I appreciate that's the system but a tad off putting.

I've used them 3 times now and have loved every single journey. It's so simple to book a taxi and so much cheaper then any other taxi firm. The whole credit card doesn't bother me really as the system seems pretty sure. It would be nice if they would allow PayPal payments but that's bound to come soon! In regards to collection again haven't had an issue and the app even allows you to ring or text the driver to see where he is free of charge which I had to use when I was round the trinity centre as it was quite busy.

If you want to £10 free credit pm and I'll send you a link to get it when you register. I'm honestly not going to use any other company.

When I downloaded Uber there didn't seem to be anything in Leeds: I'll give it another go if/when I remember. In Leeds Amber have their own app which is great for the 'seeing where your cab is' link.

I thought the same when I first got it but if you look on there's a hell of a lot more. I think the Christmas period really helped.

Ha!!! Fair enough. Genuinely never heard of them, but then I rarely get a taxi. Only wondered as the last few times I tried to book one I was getting hour waits etc...

Until this afternoon, I had not used Uber in Leeds however, I do use them from time to time in London and the US.

I took exactly the same route from Leeds train station, as i would in a Black & White taxi. The distance was 9.58 miles and the journey took 23 minutes. Uber charged me 10.66. From memory, a Black and White for the same journey would cost approx 12:00. There was a slight difference in distance as the Black and White cab would start from the Taxi rank and the Uber started from the Car park at the rear of the station.

In my experience, some private hire taxi would cost considerably less than Uber.
