Birthday in a few weeks and fancy either an Elise or Caterham for the day, present from my partner but will boil down to me to book. Have noticed www.northyorkshireclassiccarhire.co.uk/ do an Elise (S1?) for £175 unlimited mileage for the day which seems a good price. Did originally look at a 911 from 'Classic Car Hire North' but it seems 30 is the minimum age which is a shame.

Can anybody recommend anyone they have used or know of? I'd like to try a Caterham/Seven or an Elise type vehicle as I've never driven one and it's an experience I'd love to have. That being said the idea of a 911 cab for the day was appealing. I had a site in mind for Caterhams but it seems they no longer operate which is a shame.

Price wise ideally no more than £200 for the day (can be one day weekend or a mid week) and I'm 25.

Thanks.

A fella called ' RoadsportHire' used to post on here, has a couple of 7's. I think a few people who post have rented off him.

Based Stamford Bridge.

Can't seem to find him in the directory, I've provisionally booked with North Yorkshire Classic Car Hire with their S1. £181 (£6 DCW) for unlimited miles for the full day, seemed the best (so far)

..need a route now. lick

Nevermind, despite their site saying 25 minimum they have now decided it is indeed 30 for an Elise. Lovely. Back to the drawing board.

Go to the Nyloc forum and see if a friendly soul will let you borrow theirs for a day. Fully comp one day insurance would be c£40 I would have thought.

You think that's worth a shot? Understand it might be a bit daunting lending what in essence is a complete stranger their P&Js (would be happy to pay and acquire the correct insurance mind)

Or are their any in teh classifieds that you could call up and be honest with them that you want to borrow it for one day only.

Have you called your current insurer to see if they will cover you for one day courtesy car / test drive cover on an S1 given you're under 30?

I will have a look. Having had a word with the other company they can arrange the 911 for 25 and up but now I've got the idea of an Elise in my head I'm not sure if a 996 Cab would leave me feeling a bit.. underwhelmed. Blue Sky also do the Caterham for £200 for the day, 120 miles. (Which I thinks a little on the low side)

...Oh decisions. frown

Andrew who runs North Yorkshire Classic Car Hire is a NYLOC member. He's also highly conversant in good roads around the North Yorks area. He's a top lad who will provide a great day for you.

As another NYLOC member, I wouldn't feel comfortable lending out my Lotus to somebody I didn't know for the day but that's just me.

You'll be well looked after and you'll love the chance to thrash an Elise around the North Yorks Moors and Dales. Enjoy!

Agreed, it's one thing renting from an established business, but if I had an Elise I'd be hard pressed to lend it to friends let alone strangers.. wink

As above, they won't do it now as they have 'changed' insurer and the age requirement is now 30, as opposed to the 25 listed in their terms and conditions. Bit disappointed but understandable, there seems to be a divide between 25 & 30 with most companies. Interestingly enough I could have a V8 R8 from a local company but it's rather steep for the day.

Edit: And the third company DO have an S1, and they will insure me. Only problem is the rental period has finished till March. So the search is going well hehe

I hired a 7 off him, great bloke and really really enjoyed it, but I'm pretty sure he sold up.
