Mrs Benjj and the kids got us a family ticket for the car show today.

We all agreed, including my 3 yr old daughter, that it was embarrassingly st.

For every nice car there were 40 absolute rotters.

Loads of s with big nasty dogs.

Portaloos overflowing with piss with queues hundreds of meters long.

A central 'stage' that was just a bit of field with knobbers driving round and round in circles at 8mph.

Tannoy announcements courtesy of an Alan Partridge alike (the best bit).

Everything inside was extra, including all the kiddie stuff. All your £30 entry got you was access to a field full of the above.

Absolutely staggeringly awful. Avoid at all costs from here until judgement day!

Yes it was very disappointing... I was going to show my BMW "Dakar" collection with the BMW car club but i felt my ZM coupe wasn't quite detailed enough to show yet so decided not to participate so i just went for a quick look around at £12.00..!!! To find most cars on show were just very average models and in poor condition and not Classics...? what's the point.? my ZMC would have looked perfect with the best of them..! I was back home within two hours...!

We got home 125 minutes after leaving. It's a 40 minute round trip and we queued up for 20 mins to get in.

My particular favourite in the BMW section was the rusty E39 520i SE with bonnet bra and bonnet up. "Want to have a look?"

Erm, no thanks pal. Your pit bull is scaring my kids.

has it gone so far down hill?
It is a while since I have been but it used to be a really good car show.

Went a couple of years ago and sounds like things haven't improved.

Big queues, expensive ticket prices and just a load of average cars, bar a few nice classics, we about turned and headed for the hills.

A friend organised a few show tickets so the car and all the family got in for 7 quid. We parked on the edge of the show ground, had a quick look around the car show and went down to the the main Harewood House gardens and spend most of our time there with the kids enjoying the free play ground & bird garden
.
It was more of a bring what you've got rather than a quality classic car show and as mentioned by previous posters, the standard of the cars differed greatly with many qualifying to take part in the 'Big Foot' show.

On a positive note, there was a wide variety and and a few really nice cars that are rarely seen. Stand outs for me were the Yellow Integrale, While Fulvia, Silver Firenza. Several Escort RS 2000's, Daytona, Bentley Blower, Lister Jag, Lotus Carlton, Aston DB2 & DBS, RS500 Cosworth, 355 Spider, Metro 6R4, Black 205 1.9 Gti, 944 Turbo, 968CS and a Blue Porsche 912.

There were some lovely, lovely cars there. But they made up an absolute max of 10% of the show.

Just remembered the PT Cruiser area. Cars wrapped in tinsel with flashy lights and plasticky chrome tat everywhere. Looked like something that gypsies would hire for their 11 year old daughter's lapdancing contest.

I went for a couple of hours and was very disappointed. A few interesting cars, nice DB5 and a silver Daytona, but why contemporary Jaguars and Mercedes that were mass market and are a just few years old would be considered for entry into a classic car show I'm not sure. Best part of the day was returning to my car (1983 AM V8 Vantage) and finding a beautiful AM DB2/4 MkIII parked two cars away and a new Huracan just in front.
The other thing I couldn't quite understand is why people bring their cars to show them when they are full of rubbish, food wrappers and the like. Think will be giving it a miss in future......

Usually go to this every year but gave it a miss this time after last year as we noticed the show had gone downhill. Glad we did now! I remember the PT Cruiser club from last year, some special characters and the abominations they owned were even worse - didn't think it was possible to make a standard one look worse but I was wrong hehe

So as sh#t as it's always been then... I've vowed to boycott it since we went 2 years ago and haven't been back. The ques were terrible then but i thought the organizers would've opened up some of the side exits after it being such a farse that year - clearly not and shame on you you money grabbing chimps..

It's such a shame because the uninitiated don't know to turnaround and instead continue to que all fathers day with agitated kids in the back only to get robbed of £12 per head before finding out the place is full of "Ford Scorpio owners clubs " and "Triumph Acclaim appreciation societies ". As has been said the " PT Cruiser bell end brigade " take the biscuit every year.

Really tragic and a shame the nice stuff gets overshadowed by such junk.

I will continue to avoid it after hearing such familiar sounding reports....

I didn't think it was that bad, but then again I was exhibiting my scruffy, st new-ish car, so only had to pay £7 entry for me, the wife and daughter and got there before 9am so didn't have to queue. I've certainly paid more for worse shows.

As for queues, its Harewood, I don't know what people expected. They were bad, but nowhere near as bad as something like VW Festival. This can't really be aimed at the organisers.

My pics for anyone that was interested. http://s1050.photobucket.com/user/karl_mac_/librar...

Cant say I've ever heard of the show, doesn't sound like ill want to go in the future! I will look at Karl's photo's and see what i make of it. Sounds like a shame if its really that bad paperbag

Edit
Well Karl's photos show some excellent cars, is a wheat and chaff thing? Ah well maybe next year i can go and be disappointed in person hehe

Ye definitely a wheat from chaff situ and don't want to take anything away from the proper enthusiasts with desireable motors but surely that's what it should be about. If the organisers could be a bit more selective re exhibitors ( and say no to numpties who want to show off their car that was never interesting or desireable when new ) then that could possibly help + just because it's Harewood I don't see why that means queues? There's load of entrance gates around the perimeter?

There were some very nice cars at the show, there were also some total snotters.

I'd have thought they should shut the A61 when there are events like this on, just redirect traffic round the A58/A661 or A660/A658, that would be quicker for anyone wanting to just get between Leeds and Harrogate and enable much quicker exit from the show. They do similar for the Yorkshire show, and although there are the inevitable queues, it more or less works.

We went to this last year and thought it was pretty ste then, fortunately we had free tickets but even the friend from the Yorkshire Post who gave us them seemed pretty embarrassed by it all.

The PMT Cruiser owners club certainly took the biscuit last time, with the Vauxhall stand (Meriva anyone?) and the Ford Cougar lot coming not far behind.

There were some gems last time such as the Daytona but you had to search through random stuff.

Benjj, if you want a small but decent car show closer to you head down to Burley in Wharfedale on Sunday 16th August, and it's free!
