HarewoodI'm struggling to work out
Discussion
Anybody wanting to see big banger single seaters on Saturday can see them at Barbon Manor up near Sedbergh . Cracking venue- very short but beautiful setting on edge of Pennines and the braking into the top hairpin from huge speed is very entertaining . Tragically I cannot go to Harewood on Sunday but the early morning run up Wensleydale (before the bikes wake up )to Hawes , Dent and so on is terrific
Barbon excellent and new hill record .
BUT ...what genius thought it would be a good idea to have a Harewood on sat as well as sun ? Two hills about 60 miles apart , one of which is used only a couple of times a year , with the result that the two venues competing effectively for the same cars. Result- excellent field of single seaters and little else at Barbon - 11 classes had single car entries. Do BARC Yorkshire talk to the Barbon people ? If not why not ?

Had a fabbo time but it's SOOOOO different to what I'm used to. I was probably one of the highest 'qualified' drivers there with various MSA race and rally licences and also one of the slowest! Hopefully much more speed to come with time.
I really struggled on the 2 practice runs as I was on brand new 1B tyres which acted like slicks in the wet. My first run was spent entirely spinning the wheels. Was great fun though.
My last run was 19 seconds (!) faster than my first which was satisfying to see. Still got to find 5 seconds to be up there with class peers but reckon I can do that at the next event.
For a novice having never driven it before I was quite happy. Will be back for the Aug 1/2 event.

Our day was eventful to say the least and enjoyable but ultimately not the result we hoped for!
On the way there tow vans brake pedal went very long and we had to limp to the event. The wet practice runs in the morning were the usual slippery slow mo disney on ice affair that we normally experience in the jedi, ( 165bhp atw in 310kg with short wheel base on fat slicks ).
The sun dried the track nicely for first timed runs but i went to deep and hard into the first corner which lead to bags of oppo and avoided a spin but was onto the grass so aborted the run ( if you loose 1 second in the first bend then no point in pushing the rest of the course as a good time has already gone ). Dads second run looked good but came to grief crunching the front wing and nose in the last bend. As a result i missed my second run and dad missed his third whilst we fitted the spare wing and repaired the nose just in time for us to get re scrutineered and out for my third and final timed run resulting in a dissapointing 58.22 secs.
So, limited competitive runs, no prizes and some cost to outlay to repair the light damage but all part of it and still great to be competing and enjoyed the buzz around the typically friendly paddock.
Hope the BHC round goes well today for those competing!

A bump for this as Harewood is on again next weekend, Aug 1/2.
I've entered the Porsche into group 1F on the Saturday as a Group B Renault 5 Turbo has entered and I want to see how I match up to it
I had no idea you were taking part, must make the effort to get over there and spectate this year.I've entered the Porsche into group 1F on the Saturday as a Group B Renault 5 Turbo has entered and I want to see how I match up to it
My 3 year old daughter wants to come and see the racing cars (and wear her pink ear defenders) but I'm having a hard time making her realise that we just watch and that she doesn't get to drive them
I've only just started, this is my second ever event
It's great fun. All week I've been doing a bobsleigh type practice run in my mind every few hours, trying to find a few precious seconds.
Best last time was a 75.2 and I want to get down to 70 dead. I know the car can do it.
Tyres should be better this time. Last month they were brand new still with release compound on. Now they're fully bedded in. No excuses!
