Hi All,

Looks like I will be moving to The Peoples Republic Of West Yorkshire to a little town called Holmfirth! I'm very excited to be moving out of our 1 bed castle in central London to a pretty grim spacious historic 4 bed (I'm pretty sure that sentence structure is the right way around...). Now that I will be the proud owner of a double garage and workshop (i'm not so bothered about the house) I can keep my cars together for the first time in their lives!

Although my partners family are from Huddersfield I actually know very few people this way and have been looking at some local meets, clubs and events to meet some like minded petrolheads! I have taken a look through the PH events sticky but was just wondering if there are any others I should check out?

I will also be looking for a good garage and a good tyre shop, recommendations are always welcome.

Roll on the £2.50 pints and I hope to be in the Yorkshire spotted thread soon!

Welcome to Yorkshire. You have some great roads near by, but head up into North and over into East Yorkshire and they are ridiculously spectacular smile

We're a but further south (in Sheffield) but as part of our small group we have a guy with a VX220 in Holmfirth and lad with a Mk1 Focus RS near Huddersfield. We try and do something most weekends and will travel a fair way for Sunday services and meets. We've just got back from doing the FoS weekend

I'll point them towards this thread! biggrin

£2:50 pints hehe

I wouldn't take out a new car loan based on the predicted savings bud. The pretty bits of Yorkshire tend to be not far off London prices for most things with the exception of property prices.

My advice to you is to do the following. When you move in: find a nice local pub - one that has an eclectic mix of people in it - and spend two or three nights a week and enjoy a couple or three pints. Within a month you'll have friends for life. The same advice was given to me when I moved into my Yorkshire village and it really works. After about 2 weeks I was complaining to a local chap that my fridge had packed up that morning. The next day at 8:00am he stood outside my front door with a spare fridge. 'Give us it back when you get sorted lad' was his opening line.

No finer part of the world IMO.

welcome to Yorkshire, there's a few Nobles about, and quite a few Mustangs too.

2nd Saturday of the month is Leeds cruise (informal static car gathering) Burger King, Beeston, Leeds, good selection of American and classic cars during Summer from about 5pm (in fact the next one is this Saturday)

Great advice and i love the pub so don't see why I wouldn't follow it!

Welcome to Gods County.

I work in Elland, but commute 50 miles each way from East Yorks in my dagdag.

Organise some 'very enthusiastic' early morning runs out East just after dawn on Sunday mornings biggrin

There's loads of meets go on up there from various different clubs, problem is knowing what's on and when!

Welcome to the county and the forum thumbup

Some decent little drives just north of you out the oldham/rochdale way, along with the scenery... but head up to north Yorkshire for the good stuff!

Oh and decent fish and chips which you probably never get in the south hehe

Martin, Elland

Oh and as others have said, the Carding Shed is a good starting point to venture to!

Well I'm in South Milford between Leeds and York and would love to know more about all this action that supposedly goes on?? Help me out here biggrin

As for Holmfirth, the road up to the Holme Moss transmitter is a good one with lots of tight bends and a fantastic road out the other side. Give it a go.
