laugh No one apart from me you mean biggrin

It's all good mate, TBH if everyone is up that way bar your folks, I'd be looking at moving them too. From experience its a PITA when they are an 1:30 away, let alone further so we moved from 1/2 way between both to be closer to J's parents as they were the ones that needed us closer and I have my brother living with mine.

My parents may end up coming that way but not until they cannot drive any more. They love their village in Bucks and have a massive group of friends built up over 40+ years.

This is Pistonheads at its best, people sharing information and being helpful. I have a thumbs up for Naburn!

Thanks and I agree. It's great to use the combined experience on here.

Calderdale is nice (and I'm not just saying that because it's where I live)

The upper valley has some lovely villages and it's got great access to the M62 (if you like that sort of thing)

Local house shops are.

We moved to Collingham in April and absolutely love it here. Local shops are good, we have a great deli and superb wine store. Wetherby is just down the road, Harrogate is 15 minutes away and local transport links are good.
And you have a Porsche specialist....

I'm up the road in Scarcroft.....wavey

You have a good memory.... But yes lived there for 10/11 years about 20 years ago and the plate was on a variety of Porsche's when we were there the most memorable one was a 964 Turbo in Rubystone (pink)...! thumbup

Naburn is nice but a bit near water treatment works for spending that much.

Escrick fits the bill perfectly for you. Two pubs, garage and convenience store being rebuilt currently. Hotel with a gym (if that's your thing. Bus into York is 15 minutes or £20 taxi ride.

Riccall (Where I'm from) Stillingfleet, Skipwith, Dunnington, Surton on Derwent are all really nice and meet your criteria.

Thorner.

3 pubs, little shop, proper old school village hall (with quite a surprising annual comedy weekend). In the 'catchment area' for Leedsfest tickets.

Lots of little villages around Wetherby too (Linton for example).

Lots of nice places between Leeds and Harrogate too.

As others have sad, a lot of choice around York/further north than Leeds.

Many thanks again. We're going to be checking the areas out this week and hopefully view some properties Friday and Saturday.

It's certainly beautiful countryside up here - I was last here 40 years ago so had forgotten how lovely it is.

North Duffield also fits the bill of what you want nicely with some nice properties. My parents live in the village so any questions about the area feel free to ask away. It's got a pub, village shop, primary school, sports fields and village pond! Also worth a look is the next village along, Bubwith.

Easingwold, Ripon, Masham and Boroughbridge in that order. Easingwold is the perfect large village/ small township . Ripon bigger and worth living there for Curzon cinema alone . Masham stupidly pretty and Boroughbridge has come on in leaps and bounds , having been at a very low ebb in 80s . I live near Thirsk - North Yorkshire's answer to Twin Peaks...
I'd agree with all of those except Ripon, which saddens me as most of my family are Riponians.
For some reason the 'Harrogate Effect' seems to have bypassed Ripon completely - I think the city just expanded too quickly once the ringroad was done and as a result there seems to be more crime and antisocial behaviour than comparable areas.

Masham and Easingwold are lovely, and a good compromise between village and town, though Masham does get busy in the tourist season.

Parents live in Roecliffe, near Boroughbridge which I'd agree has improved a lot - another small town with a good atmosphere and good road links being within a mile of the A1.

And a simply fabulous gastro pub in Roecliffe too. Ripon is an odd place - when I was still working the most cussed, awkward but articulate complainants were usually Riponians.

Can't recommend South Milford highly enough. We bought our house here in January and haven't looked back. We have a 24hr BP/M&S Food, a train station plus the one in Sherburn two minutes away on a different line, we are a couple of minutes from the A1 and the local pub has the best food I have ever eaten (plus awesome cocktails). It's a big village which is expanding, but I love it.

The local Indian is also fantastic and there's a Spar and a Tesco Express just up the main road too.

One of the best things here though, is the selection of awesome roads locally. A drive out towards Elvington can be absolutely fantastic.

Ermm - slight gradient deficiency compared to further west and north(and east too if you get as far as the Wolds) . But some nice driving roads especially towards Bubwith , Howden etc.
