When I moved my desk from London to Leeds, civil service rules wee 90 minutes door to door.

We settled on Wolds village called North Newbald, not an obvious choice but bear with me. It's 5 minutes from the end of the M62, so links out are good, especially to Leeds etc. Brough is the nearest railway station, with trans pennine and Inter city routes, which I use to get to London a couple of times a month.

2 pubs, (healthy competition) and the town (Market Weighton) is 5 miles away.

Oh, and property prices are cheaper than cheap.

I think Ilkley would probably suit you - or one of the surrounding villages like Burley in Wharfedale, Addingham etc.

That also leaves you close to LBA which might be handy if you are having to pop back to the south coast. I am originally from south Hampshire so regularly fly home and at £80 - £100 return its a cheaper and far quicker option than driving, especially with half the M1 being subject to a 50mph SPECS enforced speed limit.

I'm biased. Grew up not that far from Liversedge, more Huddersfield outskirts really. Also for a time before uni lived in Ilkley. Go back there, Ilkley, like a shot or any of the other villages on the other side of the Wharfe from the A65. Would I go back to Huddersfield even though our old house is still surrounded by fields and woods? Not so much tbh.

Ermm - slight gradient deficiency compared to further west and north(and east too if you get as far as the Wolds) . But some nice driving roads especially towards Bubwith , Howden etc.
For some reason I thought you meant that as in it's full of flat-eathers! laugh

I'm not sure hills are a requirement when looking for a nice place to live though! biggrin It is a lovely area here. The back roads out to Elvington and then beyond that towards the coast are really something.

I lived in Huddersfield for a while, up at Taylor Hill. It was nice enough, but nothing special. The best bit really was being able to get up onto the roads across the tops around Saddleworth and Holme Moss etc. I also probably wouldn't ever move back though, despite having most of my friends there.

If I went back it would probably be as the reincarnation of Foggy Dewhurst, though in dog walking clobber the Mrs would reckon nearer to Compo.
