ITV just intervied Brian Percival, he said the flood was up to his chin, but its not difficult when you are 4 ft 10.

Boston bridge is closed as well isnt it?
Nah. The wife works on Thorpe Arch so comes off A1N at 45 then over the bridge, past prison and you're there.

She says it's lots busier though.

Well the public services say its' going to be a year before the bridge is sorted if all "goes well" at a cost of £3 million.bandit

Sainsburys was gutted by last Sunday and will be refitted and up and running by next Monday, maybe not as complex as rebuilding a bridge but the sign of a well planned disaster recovery in action.

If there are not some more accidents on the A64 as result of the shenanigans on the stupidly short slip road at the first Tadcaster A64 westbound off slip I'll be amazed.

Some barm pots were stopping on the main carriageway in very busy traffic to let people onto the A64 from the little lane from Oxton just last night. nuts

£3 million.

Sounds completely reasonable. I bet the breakdown would be scary. £100,000 tops on actual labour and materials for the person doing the job proper?

As per A64 junctions, surely they should be top priority now. Disasters should be an excuse to cut red tape and stop land campers and planning idiocy and just get them built for the benefit of the many, which is exactly what Tad needs right now!

It surprises me that they haven't rigged some sort of bailey bridge/truss structure across the 'fallen' section of the bridge for a short term fix for none HGV traffic?

Think you will find nobody is prepared to take the risk that the remains of the old structure are strong enough to support the ends of one.

May happen in time, but only when a heck of a lot of examination and assessment has been carried out.

There should be a foot bridge in place before the end of the month -- the rebuild is likely to take 12 months.

But for those with two cars ... there are car parks both sides of the river !!

A little strange that the feudal Lord is worried about blowing public money when hundreds of thousands of pounds have gone on battling him in the courts in various cases involving councils over the years.

There is currently a footpath dispute that I'm told that he's nailed on to loose but he's happy to take things to the highest level.

Don't get me wrong he does do some good things, he pretty much stopped speed humps being installed on the high street a good few years ago.

Easy one for the authorities to play though, divert attention from their own short comings that got us in this mess in the first place by bigging up the big bad feudal lord!!

All the media seem to be going out of their way to not name the person responsible, and instead just say it is "the brewery": it is Humphrey Smith. Maybe if his name is publicised enough, public opinion can coalesce against him.

Some arses need kicking, and it looks like nobody in the town or regional council has any balls to stand up to this bully. I'm sure a CPO could have been made in the public interest. Having parents with push chairs trudging 1/4 of a mile up a footpath, then the same back again, is clearly unreasonable.

What is all the fuss about getting land permission?

As no one got a ounce of common sense, all it needs to sort a walkway over the bridge is two RSJs beams to span the two solid bridge supports that are either side of collapsed section, then lay cheaquer plate on top of the beams for walking on. Finish off with hand railings on each side of the new walkway, and job done. 3-4 days max.

You need some coal mining engineers on the job, thats what they would have done, if only to get from one side to the other for a pint.laugh

Sadly coal pits are shut with the loss of proper common sense engineering people, country will miss them.
