Hi, I was wondering if there are any DIY enthusiasts or mechanics in this region who are planning to change a timing belt and wouldn't mind me coming along to see the process? I've bought a service and repair manual for my VW passat and the instructions are good, but I still feel a little out of my depth. If I could see someone in action it would help a lot. Thanks very much.

I'll be doing the timing belt on my Zetec, but the engine is out of the car so won't be too representative... Plus I won't be back in the UK for 6 weeks or so! Whereabouts are you?

I'm based in West Suffolk, but i don't mind traveling to get to you (especially if you are going to do the work over the weekend).
Also there is no immediate hurry so I can wait a few weeks if you're not planning on changing the cambelt right now.

Have a good read of this thread which are my adventures of running exactly the same car.

Somewhere around about page 5 I begin to babble on about the cambelt change.

I once asked Ford service when I should renew the timing chain on my old N9 engine. They told me it was good for the service life of the engine.......

Yup - I should the demise of the timing chain and the service life of the engine are pretty closely related wink
