I'm looking for feedback on GC Motors in Harrogate and Optimum Vehicles in Wetherby. Both have examples of cars I am interested in, but it's a long way to come from South Wales if they turn out to be anything other than described.

Any information would be most appreciated and so as not to break any PH rules, I can be contacted at trevor.hartland@btinternet.com

I do not know them but when looking at garages I tend to use these sites for an opinion.

Good luck with the search.

I got a S5 from GC traded a A8 for it, They pasted it on to Optimum its selling for £6K more than I got for it, good profit, I had the S5 for 5 weeks and sold it back to GC lossing £3K, >> They have a lot of overheads, >> Make sure you have a very very good look at the body/paintwork ??? One good thing I found with GC they bought the S5 back, LOL.

Thank you for the kind offer. There's nothing specific at the moment but they do appear to have a good range of the sort of thing I shall be shortly looking out for.

They certainly appear to have a good selection of high-end stuff, I'm a bit concerned about some of their reviews though.

they charged me £120 to put my plate on retention, I did not twig untill it was to late, I normally do it on line myself £80.

There was a PH thread a while back on a very poor experience by a customer. That Harrogate garage wasn't named on PH, but it was offline.

Nice showroom, some good cars, but I think the consensus was to do your homework on all of the paperwork and have an independent inspection done.

I went to Optimum Vehicles to view an XFR they had in, it was in fantastic condition but I'm not sure if that's testament to them prepping it well or its previous owner. It was priced very highly against anything similar, after viewing they said they don't normally discount as its an online based company, but could do £200 or so, after walking this turned into about £2000 over the next few days.

That car was ultimately not for me, I ended up saving a fortune (to me) buying private. But there wasn't really much pressure from them and the salesmans (Tim) attitude was spot on at all times, even when i said it wasn't for me.

A garage is only as good as the cars it's selling through, anything can go wrong with any car at any point it's how that's dealt with after. You'd struggle to return a car for any after sales work etc living in South Wales.

If you're fussy too and looking to deal over the phone ask 101 questions, as there was a newish X5 waiting for collection on 4 newish ditch finders, that's a grand to put right straight away. That may be the previous owner though and something you'll be up against with any car you buy from anyone.

Thanks philmots. Your experience appears to support some other views that a 'smooth ride' is not the norm. Good point about the geographical distance too.

I deal with GC Motors and Optimum on a daily basis, great lads and some serious motors on the books, have you tried Redline in Harrogate as well? they recently supplied a red arrows jet for Guy Martin

Yes I've noticed that Redline have some nice cars. Am keeping an eye on their stock list too.

This is an impossible thread... we are not allowed to name and shame, but we are allowed to praise.

On that point, I would urge the OP to use Google reviews as an indicator.

I appreciate what you are saying and this is the reason I included my email address in the first post so as not to infringe PH rules if anyone felt they wanted to share some less than positive experiences with me.
