Thanks for the - ahem, explanation.

But your pretty certain that your car feels quicker on 99 Ron aren't you Stu.

I'd certainly give it a go over a couple of tanks if it was nearer, but my car probably wouldn't tell the difference.

So it improves things on a N/A engine then?

Couldn't answer that, mine's forced induction and has advanced knock sensors and a clever ECU.

I've chatted with Al as to whether older pork is clever enough without specific re-map for the higher octane. I guess one of the Porsche forums (Rennlist or PCGB) might throw up an answer.

Have you tried it Al, if so, anything to report?

Not yet Leigh ... I keep meaning to visit the PCGB site and ask if an 88 Carrera would have such a thing as a knock sensor. No point upping the octane if it doesn't and, to be honest, it seems to run pretty well on anything

I have got a '92 964 and the manual says to run it on 95 octane so I do. I havent tried the Tesco 99 yet as I haven't got round to doing it. The Tesco on Beverly road sells 99 for certain.

Regards,

Neil
