i am sorry. i saw a photo of a fiat x1/9 and posts of a rover sdi and a citroen ds being spotted recently a. the combined value of all three being less than the mercedes-benz in my shot. define finest please.

maybe i should wait until i spot a mclaren f1lm, a bugatti type 57sc atlantic, a ferrari 250 gto or a pininfarina prototype in east ayrshire before i post in this part of the forum again.

thank you for making me feel welcome...
Aww, dry your eyes - nobody meant to hurt your feelings! There is obviousy subjectivity in what constitutes "finest", so I'm not sure it needs definition, but it's a bit like a petrolhead catching up with his pals and mentioning he saw something intersting - the X1/9, SDI and DS are all pretty rare cars now...their value is largey irrelevant. However, it's unlikely that seeing a bog standard BMW rep-mobile would warrant a mention in the same conversation.

Mine too then, because I agree with him. They're not bad cars by any means and I'm sure the owner is happy with them, but they're not really worth anyone else talking about. It's not even as though it's an AMG and an M3. They're just cooking models churned out in their millions.

You wouldn't be able to walk 100 yards in central Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen without stopping every 3 steps to photograph cars if you think those are worthy of posting. Sorry!

I was at the SE / LEGS meet at Murray Motors on Sunday.

Other than a whole load of lovely Lotus at the event, I passed a yellow Gallardo Spider, White McLaren 650 (I think) and a Ferrari 458 on the way home.

Must've been out for a pose as I overtook them in my old man spec V70 :-)

hi. Saw you going passing me. Clutch hydraulic problems I'm afraid. Was on my way to get new master cylinder fitted and keeping my fingers crossed it is not the slave cylinder as that will be a gearbox out job! If that turns out to be the problem is there anybody out there with a ramp that would like to assist??

I feel your pain. I lost my clutch master cylinder on the drive home from buying my Cerbera. That was a Saturday. The Saturday after I had replaced the master cylinder I lost the slave cylinder in stationary traffic on Aberdeen's Virginia St. I had to push the car along Market St and into Union Square shopping centre to break down formally - with some bint in an Astra nudging my heels all the way. A lad with a Focus stopped and helped. I didn't get his name but he has my gratitude!

What an odd response! There's no arrogance in my reply...you'd asked for a definition of "finest" in this context, so I assumed this was a genuine request and was trying to be helpful!

I have to admit I thought guy was trolling but having read his other threads I think there's simply a very big difference in what is considered normal. There are a few multi-millionares floating around PH. Most of us are working to middle "classes" and get varying degrees of income. There are a few school-aged contributors here and there but fairly few adults who are in BillyBob's financial position.

If in normal employment like most of us it doesn't really matter if you drive an MX-5 or a Maserati as our personal views of what makes in interesting car has a lot of overlap.

I get the impression that BillyBob is genuine but comes from a very different angle and thus our dismissal of such cars above may look a bit snotty. Having said that whilst BillyBob is welcome here in my book he needs to recognise that even if those of us who have noticed his financial situation were to be a bit more 'sensitive' in our posts, PH is a massive forum and most are going to react in the same way as we did above. There's nothing anyone can do to avoid that.

Having read billybob's profile I'm convinced he is a wind up merchant looking for laughs? I mean, who goes to Blackpool every year?

i do and have done since i was born. maybe you holiday in the likes of the maldives, the seychelles or st.lucia but i cannot afford such indulgence nor wish to fly or eat foreign food. i enjoy the simple pleasures of the lancashire seaside atmosphere and far prefer to stay close to my elderly family incase of need.

now if you wish to help me by way of advice on motoring topics - the main purpose of this forum, i thought - please do. if however you wish to pour scorn on my very being then you are cruel, a snob and/or probably bullied as a child.

laugh

No, not 'out for a pose', just taking it easy on the way home. We were at MMC too having headed down from Aberdeen at stupid o'clock in the least suited car for the Aberdeen blizzards. No one ever said a 250 mile round trip just for a free bacon roll had to make sense though. wink

I'm working class and from Manchester originally. I now live in a small fishing village on the North East coast of Scotland, I don't go on holiday because where I live (Scotland) is one of the most beautiful places on earth, I've reason to go further a field.

PS. I think Bluko has hit the spot!
