Looking for some help please. Had my car in at Kenny Brown's due to some juddering under braking to be told that both front alloys are buckled. Could visibly see it when the wheels were turned. However, he only knew of one good guy who could fix this but didn't know his name but thought he was based in Newmains but couldn't be sure.

Does anyone know who this may be or indeed have any other recommendations? Any assistance much appreciated.

I think RMS in Prestwick used to do this - haven't dealt with them recently though...

Hi Cammy,

The only experience I have had is as follows (T350 and 400SE OZ wheels)
I have had buckled wheels straightened before at Carrick Engineering in Prestwick (by Stewart Orr). They also did powder coating of wheels.
They are near the cemetry on the south boundary of the airport - 1 Skye Road, Shawfarm Industrial Estate.
They cannot sort damage if the spokes are bent, but moderate rim indentation (eg due to potholes) especially the inner rim (which is relatively un-supported)can be straightened.

However, the wheel coating part business is now under new ownership (Carrick Wheel Coating, or Carrick Alloy Wheels - or something like that), but I understand Carrick Engineering is still there (in new premises at the back of the wheel coating workshop) - It may be worth dropping in to have a chat with them, and see if Stewart is still involved - he had a good understanding of where and how hard to hit the rim to straighten it.

I have also had minor soft dents in the inner rim of OZ wheels sorted by Performance tyres in Ayr.
Give me a phone if you wish to further discuss.

I think RMS used to subcontract their wheel work to Carrick.

Thanks for your replies guys. Pretty handy as I work in Prestwick so will pop down and see them tomorrow.

Hamish - it is the rims and not the spokes so fingers crossed.

Cheers

Hi Cammy i take it is one of your spiders? i was down at Carrick 2 weeks ago as they re-furbed my spare Cerb wheels , the company have split carrick engineering have moved away from doing alloy wheels and are sticking to other industry, so carrick alloy wheels have been formed still in the same premises.

Unsure if they have the equipment to take a buckle out as it looked very bare in there as i have used them for years now looks like shot blasting and powder coating facility's only. Stuart Orr is still there for now Hamish they made a good job of my RL7's but still worth a call to see if they can do it.

Cheers

Scott

Hi Scott, thanks for the info. Unfortunately it is both front spiders but as they are only 5mins away from work I'll pop down tomorrow lunchtime. I don't think the spiders were ever the strongest of alloys if I remember some other threads correctly. Fingers crossed.

Cheers, Cammy.

It was possibly alloywheelrepairs that he was thinking of.

Spiders are very bad for turning in to a 50p shape. I fitted a set to my Cerb just this year and i have a flat spot with in 300 miles frown Let me know how you get on i will to fix my front near side one as it feels pretty bad at 70mph.

Hamish/Scott - went down at lunchtime. Was told that Stuart Orr was no longer there and had moved(?). Have to say I wasn't too comfortable with the set up for having wheels repaired, albeit prob absolutely fine for re-coating.

John - thanks for link and will get price for repair. This is probably the place indicated by Kenny.

Think my plan is to buy new spiders, and then get old ones repaired and re-coated if necessary and then sell them.

Thanks all for help.

Cheers, Cammy

I did think that myself i only had shot blasting and powder coating done to mine and it was Stuart that did the work to his usual high standards This was only 2-3 weeks ago now. What a pitty as they where good. Shame the engineers no longer work there now for the alloy welding and Machine press's

Hi, same question here, I've got a alloy wheel that I need straightened in the Edinburgh area, anyone recommend a place?
I also have a set of 3 piece split rims with stainless steel outers. They are all together but are slightly curbed in places. Anyone had their split rims welded, to let in a bit of metal and then ground back and polished?
thanks!

These guys in Carnwath. Only 20 minutes from Edinburgh. I've spoken to them about a set of wheels I needed done, but sold the car. Apparently they're very good.

Sorry to bump an old thread...

But just to let you all know - Carrick Alloys (formerly Carrick Engineering/Carrick Alloy Restoration) still repair wheels brilliantly. Had a big dent in one of my wheels, looked at their website and saw that they still claimed to do wheel repairs, so decided to pop round anyway. Asked about Stuart Orr and was obviously told that he'd left years ago, but was told that a guy he'd personally trained and worked with (all the way back when it was Carrick Engineering) was now the engineer. So they still do repairs and welding as well to wheels.

Anyway, they did a great job of making my wheel round again! Decided to take my car in the following week, to have all four wheels powder coated - did a fantastic job on the coating too, got the car back that same day, and they even discounted the price of that 1st wheel repair from the price of the powder coating. Very chuffed! biggrin
