OP Update:
Sorry, but I can't discuss the ongoing investigation.
On the Garthdee thing, my mother in law also stays there....
Insurance update: due to the engine/turbo damage, the car was written off - currently in discussions about accepting the car back as is, with a cash alternative.
Is it possible to 'haggle' with insurance companies over the valuations?

Is it possible to 'haggle' with insurance companies over the valuations? Yes when i wrote off a car never accepted first offer. Sent details of cost to replace etc from garages adverts etc and they upped offer by 10% +

Very much so. I had a written off Range Rover several years ago and argued with the Insurer over the valuation. It didn't help that it was being kept at a dealer who was "interested" in buying from the insurer. I rejected their offer several times and eventually agreed a price with me keeping the vehicle. I had it back on the road in a couple of weeks. It would of course be registered as a write off with the insurance database, but it was of far more use to me as a working vehicle. I also made a very handsome profit out of it since the dealer where the vehicle was being kept had grossly inflated the damage sustained. This was not a back street trader either, but one of the largest dealerships in the country, not a Land Rover one though. Naming and shaming rules prevent me from naming them.

My line is always that if they calculate premiums on Postcode then they will damn well calculate valuations on Postcode! My wife's Colt (old style with body kit - really nice wee car) got written off a few years back, they offered a derisory value on it, I rejected it and sent adverts of similar cars in Aberdeen/Scotland. Bear in mind that you should look for exact matches, but to strenthen your case, chose a range of cars from over the country to show how much more expensive cars in Aberdeen are...! It worked for me!

I know kids always have their own language, but I really despair if that is how they communicate nowadays! I understand the need for abbreviation back in the day when text messages were restricted size, but it appears to have been adopted throughout the written language regardless of medium and taken to a level which frankly is unfathomable! God I feel old... Saying that, I don't think these guys are exactly a perfect sample group of modern kids.

The way they seem to talk about cars suggests they treat Aberdeen like a car supermarket and they just pick the ones they want.

From what I can figure out from his facebook, he is after an rs6 next.
So, rs6 owners beware, as they seem to be very good at having any car they want!

Speaking to a police friend of mine at a wedding the other day, he was telling me about one of these scrotes... the scrote walked into a house in Rubislaw, walked behind the couple who were watching a film at the time, took the car keys from a table and left unnoticed! He was caught a bit later on- could even tell the police what film it was they were watching.
They are scum and they seem to be pretty fearless.

Given the publicity, I'm amazed (and saddened) that some nutter hasn't put a bunch of them in hospital.

Oxygen thieves like these make me want to leave the UK. They have no fear, no remorse. We should remove legal aid for idiots like this, and just let them rot in a prison somewhere. They will never contribute to society so why not just remove them from society, permanently?

It's a sad reflection that scum such as this have so little respect for other people and their property. The legal system is a joke and they know it, so even if they do get caught, the worst they'll get is a few weeks inside. Meanwhile, we have to put up with the consequences of their actions and pay through the nose for insurance and security. I wouldn't ordinarily condone violence but in their case I'd make an exception.
