Keep checking back on this thread from time to time. I recently linked it to let another couple of friends see what has been going on in our "fair" city.

I've had a couple of responses and heard another couple of stories. I'll summarise as best as I can.

A friend who lives in the Northcote Road/North Deeside Road junction area had a visit from the Police a couple of weeks ago. Advice was to ensure cars were locked and keys hidden. This is, of course, just a short hop for the Garthdee based scallies. I also disagree with hiding your car keys. If someone is determined enough to break into your occupied house while you're sleeping they're welcome to take the car (I'd just like to take the IsoFix seat and buggy out before they drive off, please).

Secondly there have been at least 2 Q5s taken recently. One from Westhill (this featured in Grampian Police's FB page, the post seems to have been removed) and a second one from Kintore. The Kintore car was found abandoned in Kincorth with 2 local baw-bags lifted. The Westhill car has apparently been spotted in/around Northfield.

Now, as a Q5 owner, I can't see why anyone would want to "joyride" in one, especially our wheezy 2.0TDI, but apparently the plastic key normally kept in the glovebox, allows them to easily make-off with your motor. Ours has been removed.

If you're an Audi owner it is sensible to remove this "key" from your car. The Neds know about it:

Something else that didn't seem to make the news was the theft and subsequent dumping of a number of UPS delivery vans and a couple of stolen cars in Kintore. From memory this was on Friday 21st December. Unfortunately I don't really now any more details.

Having followed this thread with interest, tonight I witnessed totally reckless and life endangering driving of a vehicle in Aberdeen tonight, basically something you see on those cop chase programmes. We were heading North on Anderson drive and as we approached the Kingsgate roundabout a car followed by the police, lights and sirens ablaze heads North, initial thoughts was the usual pulling over for a minor offence. The pursued car turns up the road running parallel to North Anderson Drive across from the fire station but then he goes across both carriageways (All four lanes full of traffic, cars braking taking evasive action etc)and then goes against the flow of the traffic along the pedestrian path back towards the Kingsgate. While sitting at the traffic lights they then come back up towards the fire station again on the path then they go between my car and another fortunately missing us and nearly driving into the side of a car coming out of the Junction next to the Shell carriage. He jumps lights at Lang Straik, again avoiding on coming traffic and heads up towards Mastrick. I wish I was in the old Jeep as I would have happily rammed the f*&ker, the concerning thing was the total disregard for other people's safety and it was pure luck that no one was walking along the paths or they hit any cars. I guess that if (God forbid) they did kill someone it would not be classed as manslaughter or murder but a driving related fatality, I do hope the b$%tards ended up wrapped around a lamppost.

Nothing prestige, but a blue (Dark colour if not blue) small people carrier, I think a Vauxhall Agila, old version after a quick google

Can't believe these pricks post up on FB!
Just shows you how stupid they are, the good thing (in a way) is that they will keep doing it and fuelled by plaudits from their peers and reports in media - eg 200k stolen will seem to them like a massive acheivment and a yardstick to their up and coming. The good thing is that they get caught.

Keep taking a risk and you will get the consequence, thats probability for you and its fair (eventually).

But Tasmindevils post shows what the police are up against here.

So taking the car emotion out of it, thieves are stealing lumps of metal parked in peoples driveways. Certainly in the case of BMWs and Audis, it would appear that they are aided by complete incompetence on the manufacturers part for not making a car secure.

But of course, there are others that are stolen after breaking into houses.

But what do the police do, if they give chase they are faced with the scenario above? What if the scum had crashed into another car with a tot in it. What if that was your car and your tot? Would you think the police were right to give chase?

I watch these police tv shows and some of the chases are frightening. But the most frightening aspect is the fact that they then tell you at the end of the show that the scum was found not guilty, or got 2 hours of community services.

I am not in general a fan of prisons as I don't believe we have the resource to make people better in them, and in fact they usually come out worse and reoffend. And they are a great cost to taxpayers.

However for these scum, who are prepared to breal into and steal and drive, lets face it, in a manner which could cause death, then they should be automatically locked up in prison until their case comes to court, and then sentenced to jail time. It might not cure them but they pose no threat to general society whilst they are behind bars.

As long as these guys know the chances of being caught are remote, and even if they are they will be back on the streets anyway, then they don't give a you know what!

It's a sad state of affairs that this has been going on for so long. Even as a computer illiterate with a passing interest, I am able to sit here and work out the names and locations of likely offenders. One would assume that the Police could do the same surely? Yes, I know they have limited resources but this whole situation is beyond a joke.
The fact that these idiots are prepared to break into homes, while families are asleep, with the sole intention of finding and stealing keys, is something that could easily precede a far more serious situation. I know that were I to awake and find someone in my home, I would not think twice about defending my wife, home and property.
The suggestion that the victim is somehow at fault, for not hiding keys etc, is outrageous. Why should anyone be forced to hide their possessions in their own home? Maybe it's our fault for owning something desirable enough to steal? Maybe the thieves could sue for being forced to steal by our having nice things, that they don't? If we didn't have nice cars, they wouldn't be tempted to steal them!?
The whole criminal justice system favours the criminal. I know this from my employment as a Criminal Justice Worker. The offenders I have had to work with could not care less about their victims. Getting caught in a mere inconvenience and all part of the game. They have nothing, so think they have nothing to lose. I don't mean possessions, more self respect, self esteem and moral fibre. Something needs to change but no-one wants to be the one to step-up and make the changes in law, that society needs. I fear things will get far worse, before they get better.
