Window tints - good and bad?

was £130 for 5 windows but this was about 5-6 years ago.
They were quick and there were no bubbles and no damage to the car.

Pentagon Glass Tech are the best I’ve come across by a country mile. Very good at what they do—the owner gets called around the world to give training and demonstrations. It’s an unassuming wee unit behind Bridge St Subway.
Sorry to thread hijack but what sort of price is charged by the better guys like Pentagon? Is it car dependent (as I hear the pro way to do it is actually remove the glass, tint then refit?), or priced on number of windows?
I'm considering it for the estate car as I often have the dog in it and on my previous car it kept the interior a lot cooler.

My friend has his Impreza done by Mr Tint and it was creased, bubbled, stanley knife marks on the glass and after a few summer months (the rare sunny ones we had a year or two ago) the tint turned a horrible purple/black colour and apparently he uses even cheaper tint film now.
For an extra £40-50 you could have he same job done miles better by Diamond Tints. Between myself and close family, We've had about 15 cars done by Davie and none have had problems at all. Not to mention the 20+ cars that various friends and colleagues have had done.
On top of this, He is the contractor for Mercedes Glasgow, Peter Vardy Motherwell and Verve Rutherglen. If a car isnt specced with tints and he cusomer wants them when its too late to change order, Its sent to Diamond when the car arrives from the factory. That says alot for the quality.
Pentagon use the same film as Diamond Tints but demand higher price due to franchise and 'the name'. Whilst a good job, they're overpriced and in my own opinion not very helpful.
Everyone makes there own choice based on recommendations and budget, Diamond covers all bases IMO.

Hi, have had various cars done in the past and without doubt Pentagon are the best but also the most expensive bya country mile, got my E Class done at Xtreme in Anniesland, chap is ex-Pentagon and I have to be honest has done a great job and wasn't overly expensive an dthe tint material looks like good quality. Either it's illegal or it isn't. Having film that reduces the Visible Light Transmission through any windows forward of the B pillar IS illegal. The VLT is allowed to be 70% IIRC and that is generally what clear* glass comes out of the factory - any tint decreases that value
If stopped by the police they will demand that you have it removed there and then on the spot or give you 'x' days to get it removed and get your vehicle checked at the local VOSA test station.
- clear glass - it may look clear but there is normally always a standard tint on the glas, sometimes you see it as green, blue or sometimes bronze if you hold a piece of white a4 paper partially behind it so you can see the comparison
It’s not as simple as 70% VLT … it’s not allowed to reduce the VLT by a more than a certain percentage, beyond what it was already down to with the factory standard glass.
It’s one of those really silly bits of legislation that could have been worded in a much simpler way to make it easily enforceable!

It is as simple as 70% (75% for windscreens). There is nothing in the legislation that refers to reducing light transmission from factory standards. It’s one of those really silly bits of legislation that could have been worded in a much simpler way to make it easily enforceable!
C&U reg 32 is the relevant legislation if you don't believe me.

I think my practical test is what the police tend to enforce! If you can't see the driver clearly through the side windows or windscreen then it is too dark! That is the way I have heard these cases argued by the cops in the past. Seems a simple practical test and one I agree with. An extension of the old adage of 'see and be seen' for driving!
