Hi Folks,

As the title suggests looking to get some minor work carried out on my FN2 CTR so looking for a decent garage in the NE that has good experience of Honda's as opposed to using the main dealer garage which I feel is lacking in quality, does anyone have any suggestions? Cheers

my housemate has only ever owned Honda's and he uses Carden Motors off of broomhill road. they are Honda specialists, fairly priced and the owner/head mechanic drives a NSX.

he highly recommends them. his DC5 has done over 100k and has been primarily serviced by them most of its life

Cool thanks for the feedback now that you mention it thats where a boy at my works takes his Civic so will give them a bash, better than dealing with town and county anyway.

bangy1,

Sorry to drag this one up again, but did you get your car serviced at Carden Motors? My S2000 is due a service shortly and was debating Honda vs Carden. I've read mixed reports on Carden Motors, but I generally tend to favor an independent specialist. Just wondering how you got on.

I had my DC5 in there for a full service (gearbox oil the lot!) and couldn't complain. Price seemed fairly reasonable and the customer service was good. I'd have no issues going back

Hi Yeah,

I got the brakes done there can't complain with the quality of work and reasonable price too, far better than than the work which I had to get carried out at town and county which was under warranty but pretty shoddy, hope this helps as I will be using them for anything from now on, Cheers

This "housemate" is me, i've taken my three previous Honda's to Carden all of their lives with me. So 7 years in total of driving Honda's, and i cannot fault Mark at Carden. They are quick and give good communication. You always know whats going on with your car and they are very honest about what may or may need done.

My DC5 has never skipped a beat (except when i killed the battery, but that's my fault)I've often asked about potential problem or little noises that are bugging me and usually when i get it serviced Mark will tell me that its nothing to worry about or will give me an honest answer and a fix for it.

The only problem i have with Carden is they are so good that they are busy all the time so book well in advance if you need something done. cool

Another thumbs up for Mark at Carden motors, not restricted to Honda either as I've had Mercs, Porsches, and others worked on there and always a good reliable job.
They will also try to repair things and not just automatically renew, which often saves a bit of money.

Thought I'd add my feedback about Carden Motors since I queried above.

Collected my S2000 at lunchtime. I put it in for the big 54k service (valve Clearances, engine and diff oil changed, brake\clutch fluid, spark plugs, pollen filter and more...), even though it doesn't need it yet, done just 41k miles.

I'm really happy with the service received and work done. It fills me with confidence when you go in to collect the car and shown the old parts removed, the pollen filter was disgusting, he reckons Honda never changed it. Also got a proper Honda service card with everything listed and circled that was done as part of that service, invoice was very informative too and of course the service history book stamped. Something which even John Clark BMW don't seem to have sussed out yet with my daily.

Also, when I dropped the car off I queried about having the clutch delay valve removed, I said I could book it in at a later date, just wanted his opinion on it. He said to leave the little "how to" I had printed off. Anyway, they found time to do it, which is great and also made a big difference.

So £418 down, but really happy! And this coming from the guy who is very particular and probably asks about 20 questions when the car is dropped off and collected. Will definitely be going back for future work. In contrast, it took 4 phone calls with Honda just to try to explain what the 54k service includes, I was basically telling them reading off a previous service sheet. Didn't inspire me with much confidence and they were more expensive when the did finally work out a price.

There was also a very nice E30 M3 in for work when I dropped the car off.

Anyone used these guys recently? Heard some negative feedback on a lotus forum about them...

Not negative as such, but I put my EP3 in to try and find out why the steering was creaking. Now these things are well known for their racks going and the guy said "I'd be surprised if it's the steering, as these have electric steering"

Yes they do, but the creaking steering is a well known issue on them. Honda specialists? Hmm.

Hmmm.

Ive got a k20 Elise, thinking about getting the top end reconditioned. In fact, i imagine any competent engine builder should be able to do it, it doesn't need to be a Honda expert.

I got a fair bit of work done last year by them and found the standard of work at that time to be very good (Clutch replacement and some other wee bits on my EP3) and the owner Mark was very helpful

My only criticism was the prices seemed to be pretty expensive in comparison with previous times I had used them so I found another good independent (Central Garage Glenkindie) who I now use for all my work as they are excellent workmanship and your wallet doesn't get absolutely battered either

Think it was maybe you I spotted about 5 tonight - were you waiting at the single lane bridge on the culter - carnie road? I was in the White JDM EP3 that went through while you were waiting....
