M90 Variable speed limts & cameras.
Discussion
Was going down the M6 a couple of weeks ago and when I got home a week later, a letter from midland police stating I had been doing 52 in a 40 zone variable speeds cameras. I was not aware of this as was very wet and lots of roadworks never noticed the speed limits and as was really busy just kept up with the flow of traffic.
However replied saying it was me. Letter in today with choices.. take a course and get no fine and no points. Guess what any where in England but not in Scotland so looks like 3 points and £100. Is there any where in Scotland does this as I am not aware of it. Seems a bit unfair on us Scots.

Does anyone know if the new speed cameras on the M90 (on the approach to the Forth Road Bridge) work when there is no limit displayed on the gantries?
Came down the M90 for the first time in many months, so hadn't seen the gantries, camera sign and road markings before. And I may have been a bit liberal with my interpretation of the speed limits.
Ianrb did you ever receive any correspondance? I too travelled along the M90 for the first time in a couple of years. Pretty sure the variable speed limit wasn't activated at 2pm, but a little weary that I may have been caught by the camera. Does anyone know where the cameras are located North bound e.g. what gantry at what junction, etc?
I couldn't tell you on which particular gantry with junction numbers but I believe it's only the gantries with lines painted beneath them and I've never seen one go off yet even with people speeding past them. The ones I've spotted are all southbound, south of the Halbeath Junction and again at Rosyth, then a couple in quick succession on the new bit of motorway south of the bridge and heading to the merge with the M9 ahead of Newbridge.
Haven't seen any on the Northbound side but could be wrong.

Did anything come from this? Has it been established that when the signs aren't illuminated the cameras are not active?Came down the M90 for the first time in many months, so hadn't seen the gantries, camera sign and road markings before. I think that the gantries with the cameras on them have the little speed camera sign on the front of them Left hand side) as you approach and the ones with no camera dont have the sign on them. can anyone confirm if i'm right?
I believe that is correct, you can use Google street view to check as well.Just need to know if the cameras are always on....

I see they're testing SPECS average speed cameras northbound on the bridge in a 40 mph limit and on the M90 until the Rosyth exit.
Looks like it was creating big delays earlier this evening? To be fair, workies were nearby.
I've changed the times I head to and from work now as this is seriously causing issues with traffic on approach. My normal 15-20 minute journey took 52mins last night as I left a bit later.Looks like it was creating big delays earlier this evening? To be fair, workies were nearby.
Biggest issue is clowns slamming the brakes on for the average speed cameras like they're a gatso and ending up around 20mph.
