Can anyone recommend a good engine builder in Scotland?

Looking to have my MR2 turbo engine rebuilt (3SGTE).

Cheers

Another vote for AGRA despite the previous post, I think they did go through a troublesome phase a (good) few years ago, but the engines I've seen coming out of there in the recent past have been stunning.

Thanks for the replies.

Has AGRA done 3SGTE engines in the past?

Anyone used AVA for a rebuild?

Where are you located? The Garage in Motherwell know their gap stuff and have done loads of engine rebuilds (although more Skylines than anything else).

I'd ask Graydon from Stainless Creations in Falkirk as he has a fairly bonkers Mister Two.

Brian Downie in Kemnay (Aberdeenshire though). More an Impreza/Evo/Noble man but he certainly knows his stuff, I'd trust him with anything. Regularly see hot Porsches, Skylines and the odd Ferrari there.

What he says. Marc at The Garage is the man I'd be speaking too.

I've never used AVA, but I've never heard anything good about them either.
Pretty sure they built a 1000bhp MR2 drag car earlier in the year

Sitech Racing in Fife aren't too far from you, haven't had personal experience but read a lot of good things about Simon and his builds.

Cheers for all the replies.

Spoke to an engine builder ,primarily 3SGTE as they race them, from down south...

This is what he sent me, which I will be going for. Will get it on a pallet and sent down.

Strip engine and check bores. I have never known one yet that needs a rebore.
Hone bores and fit forged 8:1 compression pistons.
Stock rods will be ok up to 450hp but will need ARP bolts fitted
Check crank bearing sizes and condition.
All bottom end should be balanced including pistons, rods, flywheel, clutch front pulley.
All new bearings, water pump, oil pump, seals and gaskets, timing belt, tensioner, all from Toyota.
ARP head studs, and you could also have ARP main bolts and flywheel bolts.

Block will be cleaned and painted and everything put back together.

The above will be around the £1500 to £2000 depending on ARP bolts used and if the block needs a re-bore

With the head off the valves could be re-seated and the cam clearances set together with new Toyota valve seals.
This work will be £300.00

VAT will need to be added to the above

I'm quite happy with this. Just need to get the engine out now! :-)

Have you tried Hypertech in Bonnybridge which must be fairly close to you?

Had a lot on over the past year so the car has lay broken until now.
Engine out and fully stripped.

Route cause of failure - cracked piston ring-lands.

Hoping to get the block and head sent away shortly. Will be getting the bores checked for ovality and measured, and the head pressure tested before I rebuild for 400-450bhp.

Any other recommendations for machine shops that could do this for me?

You could do worse than try JEM in Polmont. Been using them for 25yrs.

I was thinking this as my old man knows Peter.

How do you find their work?
