Hi chaps,

Anyone be kind enough to help me sort out some epic routes in the highlands. Iv been on 3 or 4 PH runs in the past but my terrible memory isn't helping me identify some of the more scenic routes. The way points are

Start Falkirk

1 night Pitlochry

1 night Inverness

1 night Loch fyne then home.

Here is a link using google maps for the commuter routes.

Clicky

The route will be done in a Lotus Elise 111r so we will be traveling light biggrin

Cheers
G

Pitlochry to Inverness - Come off at Dalwhinnie A889 and A86 north via Aviemore, out through Carrbridge on the B9007 up to the A96 then Inverness. I'd maybe suggest the A86 back West as opposed to the A82? Oh and go via Braco, Muthill and Crieff then up to Aberfeldy then Pitlochry biggrin

Depends on time limitations but the A830/A861 past Glenuig and around the Mouidart peninsula is stunning if slow (single track in places). Definitely south from Fort William via the A82 Glencoe then the A819 to Loch Fyne

You could take a run similar to what my Subaru club is doing next weekend - Scottish Scoobies Run

So when you get to Carrbridge turn right to Inverness instead of Aviemore (or just go to Aviemore then head to Inverness) Even after that you'll still have time to head down Glen Affric wink

Gutted I can't make that scooby run as I have a house near Avemore but I'm in London on the Sunday frown

Hardly the Highlands if you're not going north of Inverness. rolleyes

Try going on the road north of Lairg to Tongue (where I'll be for a week next week) up on the north coast A836.

Leave Tongue and head to Durness A838.

Leave Durness heading south still on the A838.

You can stay on the A838 and go in a circular route or go onto the A894 then A837 then A835 heading for Ullapool.

Spend the night in Ullapool then get on the A835 to Inverness.

Considering the southern edge of the Highlands runs North East from Arran that's hardly true...

Depends where abouts on Loch Fyne he is headed? If you have the time I'd bypass the A819 and follow the A85 to Oban, then take the A816 to Lochgilphead which is a cracking road to drive with great views of the inner Hebrides on a clear day, then you pick up the A83.
Presuming that you are headed for Inveraray it would add 85 miles/2 hours to the journey.

I appreciate you are in an Elise which isn't exactly a grand tourer, but you are missing nearly all the best scenery and roads with that route. To the north and the west of Loch Ness is where it get's really fun & scenic.

Agreed. I was up around Kyle of Lochalsh today and it was EPIC. Also went out towards Sandaig and that pass is like a mini Applecross. Stunning roads. Very fast too with perfect surfaces and visibility

From Pitlochry you could go to Braemar, Ballater and over the Lecht to Tomintoul. Great roads and nice places to stop and look around if you want a break.

It was a tongue in cheek remark, hence the smilie. Although you are right if you're talking about the Highland boundary fault.
I spend a lot of time in the Highlands where I know a lot of great quiet roads.

Survived 3 days with the Mrs on our little tour. Mrs YB managed to use up all of the boot with me cramming what I could behind the seats. Didn't get many pics but here are a couple. Used a few of the suggestions posted on this thread so thank you.
