I am looking for a specialist welder in Glasgow (not for the feint hearted) to replace the outriggers on my TVR Chimaera.

The process is as per
http://www.chimaerapages.com/newoutriggers.php

Can anyone give me some suggestions? Unfortunately, after buying the kit, the welder I had lined up has told me the job is beyond him.

Thanks

Aidan

Speak to http://www.jlmotorengineering.co.uk/ , I've used him in the past for work on my tvr. He said he could do outrigger replacements.

Taken from the Government website:

stuff said:
your MOT has expired

If your MOT has expired you can’t drive your vehicle on the road until it’s passed the test. You could be prosecuted if caught.

The only exception is if you’ve already booked an MOT and are driving your vehicle to the test centre.

If your vehicle fails the test

If your vehicle fails the test you’ll get a ‘notification of failure’ from the test centre. The failure will be recorded in the secure central MOT database.

Until it passes a retest, you can only drive your vehicle:

to a pre-arranged appointment at a garage to have the repairs done
to a pre-arranged MOT test appointment

Your vehicle should be retested at the same test centre which did the original test.
https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/after-the-test

Therefore you CAN drive the car to get the repairs done (so long as you've booked it in)

While visiting Wallaces garage, knockentiber, Ayrshire, this afternoon I noticed they were renewing outriggers on a chimaera.

Thanks for all the useful info!

I don't really fancy driving a car without an MOT 250 miles whether it could be deemed legal or not - anything goes wrong and I could end up with insurance issues.

I will give Wallace a call in the morning and find out how they are getting on with theirs - Thanks for the head up Hamish, you might just have saved me a headache!

Otherwise I will try chizfab and see what he says

Will let you know how I get on

Cheers

Thanks Gary,

I spoke with Sandy at Wallaces and providing the kit I have already bought is suitable, he will be able to do it. He is in the process of doing his 3rd....so mine might be the 4th...hopefully

It is near enough that I would feel comfortable driving on the basis of going for MOT / work to undertaken MOT.
