Details here http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/road/road-safe...

I had come across this a while back when it the assessment was proposed (I think there is a thread on PH somewhere) but had forgotten about it. I was reminded by accidentally coming across a post on a bike forum recently which referred to the speed limit sign poles being put up on the A87 along Cluanie.

I travel that road a reasonable amount, but mainly in the summer so have not been up it for a while.

The reasoning for the changes is interesting - I am not sure what the objection process was - too late now I assume.

None of my favourite roads on that list so I'll keep my outrage in check...for now smile

I laughed at the section on recommendations of which roads should have increased limits though; list them all and the recommended new limits, then states "Proposed increases are not being promoted at this time" Funny that...

Yes, it's farcical. They commision a speed limit review and then only take forward the reductions, ignoring the few recommendations to increase the limit. The rationale?

"In some areas where an increase has been recommended Transport Scotland is already working with communities and the police to positively influence driver speeds towards compliance with the current limit. These measures will be given a period of time to assess their effectiveness (and potentially can be used in other areas where an increase has been recommended). As such, the Traffic Regulation Orders for recommended sites of any speed limit increases will not be promoted until these options have been fully explored.

In other words, people are breaking the current limit (because it's too low, perchance?) so we want to use draconian enforcement to make sure the current (too low) limit is complied with before we consider increasing it.

We'll soon be back to being escorted by folk waving red flags if this carries on. I see the Fife driving style being the norm soon - nose to tail at 40mph leaving no room to overtake.

Went up from Perth to Aviemore Saturday morning then back on Sunday afternoon.

Traffic was fairly quiet on Saturday but kept moving ok.

Android Cameralert works really well resetting to fresh average each time you pass a camera. Got confused when I turned off at Aviemore though as it thought I was still in a specs zone all the way to Forres!

Hopefully it's accurate as I was very close to indicated GPS average max once or twice!

Weather not good on way back, and passed a couple of fender benders on dual carriageway sections. Traffic speed still kept up ok considering the conditions.

Less numpty overtaking it seemed.

Did Stirling - Perth and back today. It appears that 80% of drivers think the speed limit for cars on a Dual Carriageway is 60.

Good to hear, but I think he was referring to car drivers. Cruising down the A90 yesterday, car in front 70, no worries, they see a fixed camera which has been there about 10 years plus, they slam on the brakes, why?

Car-derived vans up to 2 tonnes maximum laden weight = 70MPH on Dual carriageways, you're safe wink
