Well, another nail in the coffin for driving, from the West, into Dundee city center.

I agree someway with the proposals re bridging the railway line for pedestrians, but on the other hand, after dark you really wouldn't want to be walking round that area anyway....

Has it not been 2 lanes virtually from A90 junction past the airport to railway bridge for years now?

Is the bit beyond Tesco to be narrowed?

The Courier article suggests that in part it is to provide a foot bridge from the Perth Road to the station. While the station is being remodeled I can see how that would be useful (having had to hike down there on Tuesday), but other than that I really can't see the benefit.

I read the courier link to mean the loss of two lanes between the rail bridge and the centre, but seeing as between A90 roundabout and rail bridge is single carriageway, it's not a big deal?

Riverside Drive used to be a 50, now it's a 40 [in effect a 30 thanks to those who follow the speed kills mantra] and is soon to be ??

The twin lanes allows drivers to drive at the speed limit and leave the freaks behind.

All thanks to some "charity" that sees cycling and public transport as the way forwards.

"Re-engage with the river" People do that well enough already.

Well done Dundee City Council.

Am I reading this right.....there will no longer be access to the city centre, only Tesco and flats? If this is the case it's utter madness

There will still be access the same, but reading the article it sounds like the tescos roundabout is becoming a junction. They are reducing it from a four lane road to a two lane road for a short stretch - 800-1200m depending on if they go past Tesco's or not. The wester 5k of riverside drive has always been single carriageway as far as I know. It's not a long stretch and I've never seen particularly heavy traffic there, the Kingsway north / east is always much busier.

I'm not sure if they are leaving the dual from Tesco, or removing it to the roundabout before the station, but neither will make a difference. In my experience dropping the limit has made bugger all difference too, previously most people done 40 or 50 before, and still do.

I live in the Magdalene area (and drive through that section everyday) and I don't see it being an issue to be honest, in either direction that small section of dual gains you bugger all, and you usually lose any gains at the roundabout anyway going east, and going west you'll find yourself in a queue of traffic by the next roundabout anyway. Without the Tesco's roundabout it'll probably be faster if you don't get caught at the lights. If somebody is really dawdling there are places you can legally, and safely overtake on the S/C bit of the riverside.

I've walked along there a few times and it's a bit stty and rundown, hopefully this will make that area a lot nicer.

At last someone talking sense.

I can see the stretch of road immediately west of the rail bridge from my house, albeit from afar up the hill towards Balgay Park, and like you, use the four lane section regularly - reducing this short stretch to two lanes will have minimal effect.

I can also guarantee the road between Tesco and the centre will not be closing as this will be access to the new bridge approach, new rail station, Discovery Point, and eventually the V&A.

I'm very happy at the work getting done - what a pleasure to have such openness now Olympia, Earl Grey/Hilton, and of course Tayside Hoose all gawn wink

Thats fine then, just read a bit strange and i thought it was a bad decision. In that case i don't see what the big deal is to be honest, the four lane stretch coming down to two will make no difference really.

Drove it this morning, in both directions, from the rail bridge to tesco then tesco to the botanic gardens, all coned off and single lane in each direction.

Could see no issue whatsoever, the traffic still flowed at the speed limit, it'll be nice when done smile
