It's time for me to sort out my insurance policies, I'm in a bit of a sticky spot because I'm on the hunt for not only a good deal but also a good insurance company and that never exists haha.

At the moment I have an 'agreed valu'e policy for my Vauxhall Cavalier Turbo 4x4 simply because it's at that age where if someone happens to walk past and cough it's instantly written off. I have this policy with Markus Study via Adrian Flux.

I have a separate policy for my Monaro VXR which is with Privilege however (despite my own reservations about it) you can only use your NCB on one policy (despite the fact that you can only drive one car at a time but that's just my opinion on it).

With that in mind I will need a multicar policy, previously I've had a multicar policy for other cars with Admiral who weren't bad, but my concern is that with the Turbo being on an agreed value I may only get a "normal" policy to cover it in a multicar scenario.

Agreed value may not be worth anything anyway and so I can just get any multicar policy however it just makes me feel safe when I drive the car knowing that if an incident occurs I'd at least get a good payout.

Who are you with? Who would you recommend?

I have a multi car and classic policy with admiral. PITA if you make a mistake with your policy though.

Best company was aviva. You can change your car online, they don't ask silly questions about mods and don't charge for changing minor things, not even an administration charge if you do it online. IDK if they do agreed value.

I used to be with the company named above, but found very little benefit of their multi car policy price wise. In fact, every year the renewal came in and went up considerably above the renewal quote of two single cars. Simply got annoying.

I currently am with a company who has a red phone on a line as logo and who offer a similar deal, that actually 'is' cheaper, and doesn't go up by 20% with every renewal quote. Never needed to actually claim anything with them, so no idea how good they are when push comes to shove.

Heritage advertise exactly what you're asking for; combined modern and classic multi car policies with agreed value available. I've no first hand experience - just saw their advert in Octane.

Well I personally would not go back to Admiral - you have to ask why they are so must cheaper than some others and you only find out how 'good' they are when you make a claim.

For instance, I had a modified car insured with them, fully declaring all the mods and paying the premium accordingly. When I came to claim on it as first a stolen vehicle, they would only give market value for a standard car, then when I got it back, would only repair the bits of the car that were standard.

So even if you declare the 19" wheels for instance, don't expect them to be insured.

Now I am with Adrian flux (who cover like for like replacement mods), but have had 3 supplements added to my original quote, ie they haver increased it over £150 since my first quote because of mistakes on their side, weeks after the original quote. It was either pay up or immediately lose cover. Again, it doesn't give much hope that they will be slick come making a claim.

I had a few motors insured through greenlight before.

They can mirror your no claims between policies too.

The red telephone guys are usually really good and helpful, although I've just moved two of our cars away from them because their renewal quotes were off the scale (approx 25% saving in each case).

We now have a car with the "calm down dear" lot, one with the naval officer, and one still with the red telephone. All are single-car policies. Some insurers give you a discount on a second policy, but it rarely seems worth the hassle, as far as I can see.

Missus had two cars with the red phone folk on a multicar policy. Renewal came through with 30% hike. Re-quoted online & saved 39% on the renewal quote. So you need to shop around before renewal!
