I think I'm looking for somewhere to recondition/clean/replace the turbo on my van but unsure where to start asking (or even if this is the course of action to take).

PH-unworthy VW Transporter T5-based campervan: 2.5 5-cyl 130ps version. Diagnosed with sticky turbo vanes, expressed as a loss of power caused by the "boost pressure exceeded" fault code P0234 which drops it into limp-home mode, often when you most need the power, i.e. accelerating up to speed joining a busy road or attempting an overtake. I've tried the most simple fix of Forte Diesel Turbo cleaner added to the fuel tank and giving it an Italian tune-up, but the problem continues to occur. All else engine-related has been given a clean bill of health by the garage who carried out the diagnosis.

We intend having this vehicle a long time, so are debating whether a "proper" clean/recondition of the turbo would be the better solution than fannying around with cleaners which haven't helped so far. I'm also led to believe the sticky vanes problem is caused initially by the fecking EGR valve feeding dirty air into the turbo, so I'm keen to have that removed/blocked off if that would help prevent a return of the issue once cured.

But I don't know where to turn to for help. VW dealers haven't ever inspired me with confidence. I've had no joy with VW forums so would be keen to speak to any knowledgeable turbo/VW specialists local to me, but I don't know where to start.

Does anyone on here have suggestions about where to try?

We're in Falkirk but anywhere Glasgow/Edinburgh/Perth/Dundee or so would be ideal...

Cheers,
Ally

Thanks folks. I've just spoken to Alan at The Turbo Guy and mega mega helpful. I had a very confidence-inspiring talk about the turbo problems and what he'd suggest, so we'll be going with him once the turbo's off the van. All I need to do know if find someone to remove the turbo as it's a complete pig of a job apparently - I'm seeing someone next week about it, although Alan says he can recommend someone too if I'm stuck.
