So this is going ahead from February.
Sad day for Edinburgh and a sad day for democracy given that the petitions, protests, etc. were ignored.
Local Government makes National Government look positively angelic.Sad day for Edinburgh and a sad day for democracy given that the petitions, protests, etc. were ignored.
Has there been a final and definitive decision made on exactly which roads are in/out of scope for this new limit?
You never know, once the (any for them) economic consequences are felt, maybe it'll be reversed. The council loved the "al fresco" dining on George Street and that's supposed to be going.
I really despair at some things the council do to Edinburgh. They might get away with the trams long term, but this aggressive anti-car mentality is socialist BS at its worst.

I believe the confirmed ones are on their website - ISTR it set out what would be covered when I looked at it a month or two back.Has there been a final and definitive decision made on exactly which roads are in/out of scope for this new limit?
I became much less bothered by it when I discovered that almost all of the only City roads I use regularly had been put back up to existing limits following the consultation.
From memory, many roads that had been planned to have reduced limits had them put back up because they were main bus routes (which would have affected the currently well run Council owned bus service).
As I am not at all cynical however, the change of heart can only mean that, uniquely, buses don't have collisions with pedestrians caused by excess speed.

This shouldn't be a surprise. If the Council have an opportunity to screw the motorists they will take it. The didn't even put any effort into justifying it, because they know they don't need to.
It will make people angry and cause more pollution, it is as simple as that.

Drove along a near- empty Queen Street last night. Incredible to think it'll be against the law to do so at 21mph some time soon
Exactly, the 20 limit will make next to no difference at rush hour, but after about 7/8pm it'll slow everything right down again...Taxis coming to and from the airport will love/hate the new rules too.

Driving home coming through Lasswade, I noticed a sign saying as of 30/3/15 the speed limit would be reduced to 20mph, no doubt it'll carry on in to Bonnyrigg . I can't see any obvious reason for the change.
Where's it changing exactly? As you enter Lasswade from Edinburgh by the Laird & Dug?Edinburger said:

Yup, there's a sign just before the 30 limit saying when it'll come into force. According to the internet it's only for Lasswade though I wonder how long it will be before all of Bonnyrigg is covered.Edinburger said:
"Police have confirmed that they have a store of ten additional speed guns, reserved for community use, which are set to be deployed throughout the city."
Brilliant.
Community use? Reckon that's the busy bodies with the power to write a strongly worded letter? Sure I've heard of that in Englandshire.Brilliant.

Yep in the summer (???) according to Evening News:http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/george-...
And while looking for that story, another wanting George Street to be pedestrianised. Now I understand what these fools what to achieve, but they realise we are in Edinburgh and not on the coast of the Med? Regardless how attractive all this street furniture is, when it's 5 degrees and blowing a gale not many people want to sit outside - what a shock! During July/August fine.

It means that the 10 'spare' speed guns are allocated and stored away for community cops on the very rare occasion they set up an local traffic initiative or feel obliged to issue FPN's or are at an event or 'fun day' - ontop of the 'pool' of speed guns that each section has for response cops to use in day to day policing. Basically its a fancy way of making it seem like they are 'getting a load of extra speed detection stuff in' just for the introduction of this limit, when in reality nothing will change and it will be the same cops doing the same thing.
Sgt's will be getting emailed from top brass telling them to get the finger out over the introduction period, the gaffer will probably mention it to his team during a briefing if he remembers, and will definitely if the section inspector turns up with the box of 'spare' speed guns.
