Lookers are knocking down the Peugeot showroom & using that area for used car stock. Nissan showroom is being extended. Volvo is moving to a custom built site at Hillington.

So no Volvo dealer in Lanarkshire anymore? Is the Taggarts Volvo at Maryhill relocating to there as well?

My wife and I walked out and vowed never to return - likewise, my wife is now a happy 4 series Gran Coupe owner instead.

Have you seen how many AC cars have squint number plates? Another example of poor PDI standards.
And the bloody AC stickers on the exterior of the back window. Peel the fecker off. Never bought from AC through principle but did from Parks Volvo in Ayr who were pretty shocking too.

The "best" one has to be covering the high level brake light with the sticker

At least they put it on the outside so it doesn't damage the heated rear window elements when pulling it off. Noticed a lot of dealers shifting to the externally affixed stickers rather than attach them to the inside of the glass. Maybe getting complaints from people or possibly because a lot of cars are now coming with tinted windows at the back which hides their free advertising.

The worst have to be Evans Halshaw ones. These are attached to the inside of the glass but rather than a one piece sticker it's more like sign writing with the evanshalshaw.com all individual letters, can't use a blade to peel them off or you will damage the heated elements, so you need to pick them off individually but they just become before and break into tiny pieces, absolute PITA.

Noticed last night that Robins & Day's workshop at Minerva Street has been pulled down. Looks like the showroom will be next. I reckon the site will be clear by the end of the week.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand Arnold gets another one. Only this time it's a new franchise and not a new dealership. VW dealership at Dalmarnock Road in Rutherglen is now/becoming an MG dealer! I'm shocked and surprised at that one, They must be expecting MGs to suddenly start selling well because Arnold never takes on an unprofitable franchise. I doubt they are dumping VW at Rutherglen, id imagine they will put MG in the showroom next to VW which has just been used cars with Arnold's and Verve before them since Verve relocated the VW Van Centre from that site to Baillieston.

huge for MG

Arnie could add huge sales and MG do a lot of pre reg which Arnold love

Phoenix had MG display models at Suzuki glasgow for a while. More pressure for them

Wonder if they are doing the new Hyundai ID at Phoenix or swapping it into Mitsubishi showroom now that Mazda is gone

Their MG signage was on one of the octagon type shape buildings at the front of the forecourt at Linwood, where Enterprise rent a car used to be.

I think MG have finally realised that if they want to sell cars in any sort of numbers they need more dealers, better representation and presence in the major towns, cities, regions or geographical areas.

Brysons in Prestwick has recently taken on the franchise for Ayrshire, having been a Rover dealer for many years. And I think Frasers of Falkirk took it on a while back too after losing the Suzuki franchise, replacing it with Chevrolet who then pulled out of Europe.

The thing for me is if MG do end up making a success of this, the big players will suddenly want a piece of the action, look at Hyundai and Kia during the mid-late 80s and the 90s, it was mainly small independents running their franchises who'd took the plunge, at a time when they weren't selling any cars and had undesirable model ranges. They started churning out good cars which started selling well, the big groups took an interest, the small independents who'd stuck by the manufacturer in the beginning, during hard times and had faith in the brand were dumped. Can see this happening here too.

Looks like Arnold Clark have lost the Jeep franchise in Ayr, they've still got all the signage up but there's a banner on the showroom window saying it's now Abarth and it's all 500 Abarths in the Jeep showroom.

Looks like Border Cars now have the Jeep franchise in Ayr, loads of new Jeeps on their site and Jeep temporary signage on the showroom between Mazda and Mitsubishi showrooms. I've heard that all Jeep dealers are to become Alfa dealers and vice versa so they could possibly be adding that franchise in due course. Unusual for Arnold to lose out to someone else, usually they take the franchise off someone else.

Also in Ayr Parks and building a new Jag/Land Rover dealership on the site of where their Motorwoeld used car operation portakabin and use car forecourt was, just a stones throw from their existing Jag/LR/Volvo dealership is, I think Volvo is staying where it is, which gives Parks the 2 vacant existing showrooms when the new one is built lt. I'm wondering if Honda at Doonfoot Road could move to here as it's a bigger site, better location, not sure what they'd do with the other showroom right enough, not any makes not already represented in Ayr they'd want. Only 3 I can come up with from volume and mainstream prestige is Citroen, Kia and Seat.

No mention of a Land Rover showroom even though I was under the impression JLR were insisting all dealers had to be joint dual franchise Jaguar and Land Rover showrooms, maybe because Taggarts/Lookers already run the Land Rover dealership at Darnley though.

I make it a condition if sale (I write this on to the back of their "contract") that the car must NOT come with any advertising on it. Was interesting when I refused deliver of a car 'cos it had stickers on it, and mudflaps with the dealer's name on it. As the contract said had mudflaps as a paid-for extra, they had to go out and buy a proper set AND remove the stickers AND prove the heated rear window still worked 100%

For some reason, they weren't too happy, but as they accepted the change to the contract...........

I wonder if this is related to Western Seat/Alfa Romeo at Colinton Road in Edinburgh closing down today, seemingly they sold the site but couldn't find suitable premises to relocate to so no Seat franchise that side of Edinburgh and no Alfa franchise at all there now.
