I wonder if this is related to Western Seat/Alfa Romeo at Colinton Road in Edinburgh closing down today, seemingly they sold the site but couldn't find suitable premises to relocate to so no Seat franchise that side of Edinburgh and no Alfa franchise at all there now.
Slightly worrying/frustrating (for me) that they haven't found anywhere to go yet. I have been in once or twice recently looking at Giuliettas and have been wondering why they didn't call back when I requested a test drive...

I think I'll stick with my current car a bit longer instead of braving the Arnold Alfa garage in Glasgow.

At the old Fiat site? I was there only a couple of weeks ago and not a sign anywhere they were changing if so.
I believe so - I was doing some remote work for them regarding the new Fran, I was not actually on site. The modern day joys of working from home!

Hasn't taken effect yet, nothing on Arnold's or Seats website regarding it, I'd be very surprised if they were to drop Fiat here, most likely they will dual franchise id think.

What sort of work do you do if you don't mind me asking?

Involved in the DMS side of things - Site is very much "Live" as I have the relevant details.

Drop me a mail if you want any more info, nothing that I cannot share on here, but other posters would get bored! smile

So there is now only one Alfa dealer in Scotland? No wonder I never see a new Alfa on the road.

nope, there's one in Inverness. Can't find another one apart from that though.

At the moment there are only 2 full dealers: Arnold Clark Linwood and Donald Mackenzie Inverness and 3 "authorised repairers" (aftersales dealers, so everything but new car sales - servicing, warranty work, repairs, parts, diagnostics etc) Western Lexus at West Street Glasgow. Arnold Clark Fiat/Motorstore/Citroen at Sighthill in Edinburgh and Arnold Clark Fiat/Kia/Abarth at Springburn Road Glasgow.

However all Jeep dealers are supposed to be taking on Alfa as it's a twin franchise like Rover and MG were, or Chrysler and Jeep, or Citroen and DS. A lot of Arnold Clark Fiat dealerships had Jeep franchises but some have now lost Jeep and the ones that have kept it are the ones taking on Alfa, so Aberdeen and Perth. Not sure what's happening to Kia in Perth which shares a site with Jeep but Aberdeen Kia is moving to Hillview Road where Ford commercial was as it's now moved to Girdleness Road where the service centre for the Ford/Mazda/Citroen/Hyundai sales complex on Craigshaw Road is based to make way for Alfa at the existing Fiat/Abarth/Jeep/Kia site. Elgin, Dundee, Ayr Fiat sites have all lost Jeep as they aren't taking on Alfa.

Broxburn now listed as a Fiat/Abarth/Seat dealership on their website.

Looks like Macklin Motors Nissan in Dobbies Loan is either open or about to open - the tower was stocked with a stack of colour co-ordinated cars when I passed this morning.

At least the mid 80s, and it's been Jaguar since then until now, as someone else said it was also Nissan until around 1996/97, when the Nissan part started selling prestige used cars, this would've been around the time Arnie Clark started opening a load of Nissan dealerships.

At that point, Gaulds on nearby Garscube Road (now Arnold Clark Vauxhall) were Land Rover dealers, they lost/gave up the LR franchise and it went to Shields on St Andrews Road then later Darnley where it now still is and of course now also Taggarts, Gaulds replaced Land Rover with Volvo, Arnie bought them over and Murray/John Martin Group took on Volvo at Kennedy Street, Townhead. At some point thereafter Taggarts in Maryhill added Land Rover to Jaguar, and then bought out Murray/John Martin Group Volvo at both Kennedy Street and Hamilton and moved Volvo to Maryhill and Motherwell.

I'm not sure on the future of Maryhill Taggarts as Lookers who own them are building new Jaguar and Volvo dealerships at Hillington across the road from Peter Vardy Carstore and Arnold Clark Renault. Slightly odd in itself as there's no plans for a Land Rover dealership despite Jaguar Land Rover wanting the brands to be dual franchised in the same showroom, although they do have the Darnley Land Rover dealership not far away from Hillington, whether Maryhill will run alongside them or close when they open I'm not sure. But there again I'm not sure what's going on with Lookers, Lomond Audi is now called Lookers Audi, the VW Van Centres at Darnley and Baillieston are under Lomond rather than Lookers or Taggarts, Taggarts Nissan and Hyundai are now called Lookers Nissan and Hyundai but the Jag, Land Rover, and Volvo franchises are to remain Taggarts, so Lookers have no real brand unity in Scotland.

As for the mentions of Alfa dealers further up, I'm still convinced the remaining Arnie Clark Jeep dealers that haven't relinquished the franchise (Aberdeen and Perth) will be becoming Alfa dealers at some point, and Border Cars in Ayr who've recently took over Jeep in Ayrshire from Arnie are pretty certain to be taking on Alfa as well from what I've heard.

That site, in particular the showroom, is massive, so big intact that as you know they've an indoor approved used car display for used Jag/LR/Volvo models, unless they are planning some sort of "Adventure Centre" like the one in Darnley.

I wouldn't imagine LR would be keen to dual franchise with anyone but Jag now, but unless they are as I said, planning an adventure centre sort of thing or an absolutely massive display of used LR models for sale, I'd say the site is too big, also seems odd with Jag and LR sharing showrooms now that it's not LR moving to Hillington and Volvo remaining on Maryhill Road.

As for TOM, they have their fingers in a lot of pies, their Airdrie depot is huge and Ford Transit Centre status, Mercedes franchise for after sales, truck coachbuilding operation, rental, used commercial sales, they've also got a Fast Fit Centre elsewhere in Airdrie, an accessories shop, a used van sales place in Newmains (used to be Van Monster) they took over Glen Henderson Caledonian Trucks Mercedes commercial and body shop, John R Weir Mercedes commercial in Aberdeen from Arnold Clark when they took over the entire JRW business and sold off the commercial side, they've also got another Mercedes Commercial franchise in Inverness, they took over Alistair Fleming Citroen/DS Car & Commercial franchise dealerships in Ayr (now closed) Dundee and Kilmarnock (just opened up a huge bit of land on site for Commercial Vehicle Sales Centre, plus all their rental depots, and they lease out a lot of brand new vehicles to fleets and business operators that they source from the likes of Evans Halshaw and Arnold Clark. A much bigger company than people think, most think it's just a reasonable size van rental company.

Clelands Jag to become part of Lloyd, uniting Jag and LR in the Borders (as part of Jag/Land Rover strategy)
This would appear to be the last piece of the Jag/LR network sorted in Scotland... unless they decide that Morrisons has to become part of one of their JLR territories.

Was just about to post the same thing, although at least Clelands aren't gone completely as they will continue as Volvo dealers.

There isn't a Jag dealer in Stirling currently to pair up with Morrisons LR is there.

The Taggarts set up is weird is it not because JLR seem to want the 2 brands dual franchised on the same site but Taggarts will run LR from Darnley and Maryhill Road while Jag will be at Hillington.

Don't John Clark run Pentland Jag and LR dealerships in Edinburgh from different sites too, Jag at Glasgow Road and LR from Newbridge.

And don't John Clark also run a LR dealership in Cupar where there's also no Jag dealer?

Seems there's not as much unity in the franchise as there is down south where it seems all Jag and LR franchises will share the same premises, which doesn't seem to be happening as much up here, I can only think of Macrae & Dick Inverness, Pentland in Perth, Parks in Ayr and now Lloyd in Kelso as ones who are having a combined JLR dealership, the rest seem separate.

EDIT: Arnie has now also opened a Citroen/DS dealership next door to their Renault branch at Seafield in Edinburgh, presume this means the closure of the Current Robins & Day Citroen further along Seafield Road next to Peter Vardy BMW

Peter Vardy in Aberdeen and the Taggarts/Lookers in Motherwell are together as Jag/LR.
