I hear Parks have opened up Suzuki in Bathgate. Good as there has been a real lack of Suzuki options in the west Edinburgh area since anyone running them out at Sighthill went bust or scaled back. For a while it was left with Ian Grieve in Falkirk or Belmont in Wallyford covering a big area.

MB are changing how they sell.

They are wanting to go online where you spec your car, pay deposit and then balance and the MB hub in Dundee is the collection point.

They have 2 cars in the showroom.

The cost savings are huge...its most likely how the car selling business shall go.

Why have massive overheads such as a huge brand specific showroom when a car can be ordered from the comfort of your armchair without a the hassle of a salesperson who is your best friend right up to the point of getting the paperwork signed....
Have you seen the size of the Mercedes Showroom at Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh. It was built post pandemic.

It's very large indeed. The Porsche one is huge too. There must be 20 cars on the shop floor in there minimum.

what Daewoo tried in the 90's.
I was in my early 20s back then & remember visiting the Daewoo 'showroom' (big metal shed) in Glasgow. One of the sales guys was someone I'd worked with at a Renault dealer a few years prior. He said that Daewoo were trying to do things differently & that was why they were fixed price & didn't employ the usual motor-trade sales gadgies - he was the manager of the parts dept when I worked with him & I know one of his sales colleagues was an ex travel agent. I say "sales" but their job titles were customer service & I think they were salaried but no commission structure.

IMO they were decent enough 'white goods' cars for people who wanted simple, honest transport but Daewoo were way ahead of their time with their direct-selling approach. Now in 2024 I think they'd do well & I personally can't wait until the car sales industry moves wholly to such a model.

Richard Hardie Sunderland (MG Fiat and Abarth) is now an AC. This follows on from AC adding three MG franchises from Peter Vardy.
