Morning Guys,

It's that time of year again, the annual rally invasion to Mull. Sadly I can't make it this year but it looks like a real cracker. Highlights include:

  • Refreshed route with some new stage combinations
  • Double run of the Tobermory street stage
  • Nearly full entry - almost 150 cars entered
  • Some star drivers and cars entered such as:
  • WRC star Tom Cave
  • Last year's winner and WRC star John MacCrone in a Fiesta R200
  • Multiple British Champion Jimmy McRae
  • N.Irish multiple rally winner Derek McGeehan in the MINI Countryman WRC
  • Tyneside Stages rally winner and last year's runner-up Peter Taylor in the Fiesta S2400
  • 5 previous winners in total
  • Audi S1 Quattro, MG Metro 6R4, Peugeot 306 Maxi, Hyundai Accept WRC, Impreza WRCs, Mini Coopers (old and new), Singer Chamois, Hillman Avenger Tiger, one of the UK's quickest Mk11 Escorts, Opel Manta 400......
More details here, if you do go over, please watch the safety video on the website.

Whah what a memory jerker, I haven't done the Tour since the mid 70's, a cracking weekend that still is strong in my memory. Ive been back to Mull since, but not for that weekend, this rally has always attracted stars ever since the foot & mouth disease outbreak in the late 60's banned rallying from the mainland. Not to be missed! Just as the bar in the Mishnish has not to be missed!! smile

Got my whisky ordered, accommodation sorted. Should be a good weekend of spectating.

Just the small things to do between now and then like move house, McRae stages, service and MOT the road car....

I've been wanting to go to the Tour of Mull for years, could be tempted this year. Anyone know if the Corran/Lochaline ferries would be a viable choice or will they be super busy?

Shouldn't be too busy if you're just going for one day. Most of the crews go for a week. I'm going over on the tuesday.

Yup, what a cracker this year will be smile Saw on BRF that you weren't going to be there.

I'll be there and looking forward to it as ever - after 18 years it's a habit I can't break hehe

I know they are still short of marshals so if you can help out then I'm sure it would be appreciated (and you do get some expenses as well) http://mullrally.org/marshal-registration/

Can I add to your safety video comment also please remember if you are spectating that there are two cars behind the field (sweeper car & road opening car) and you shouldn't move onto the roads until the road opening car has passed - the one with the red beacons on.

Ah, memories of Mull! I remember one riotous post-rally night in the Salen Hotel when a competition started between Scottish and English lads to see who could shin up a pillar and kiss the ceiling with lipstick covered lips.

It was eventually won by one of our lads who somehow managed to plant his lipstick covered arse cheeks on the ceiling...laughlaughlaugh

Had a brilliant week, already preparing for next year!

If anyone has any pictures of car 87 I'd love to see them.

John Lindsay does some cracking shots of all the cars, here's 87

What a cracking event, changing weather meant there was a few challenges on the stages. Shame Jimmy suffered from fuel starvation as I think it would've been good to see his result.

Any tips on the best place to watch from?

Also, how do you get to said spot. Do you just drive there in your own car (prior to the road closing obviously) and then wait until road re-opens after the stage. Doesn't it get very congested?

Either time travel or take loads of flasks to keep you going till next year, event was last weekend wink

I know. Thread title, and living next door to Mull, was a bit of a giveaway!

Book now then smile

Many of the teams and marshals keep coming back so put down deposits before they leave.

Yes, it's a case of driving in to the stages and parking up until the road opens. I'd say it's worth helping out as a marshal as there are some quite isolated spots out on the route and if you're not with a radio then the lack of information can be frustrating. The good news for marshals is that the organisers help out with some expenses.

Fantastic event this year as always. Highlight for me had to be Derek's Mini WRC - sounded fantastic - like a “lit box of fireworks” travelling through the Mull countryside!

We usually head to Dervaig where you can park in the village and walk up to the famous hairpins/churchyard. From there you can also walk into Glen Aros/Calgarry/Hill road stages. All without getting your car stuck in the stage.

If you do drive mid stage - always worth bearing in mind that you will be stuck there for some time and even longer if the stage is delayed.
