I live in Kintore
Its generally quiet
No real gyms or things like that . That may come with the upgrades to the village - additional 1200 houses getting built so will be in contact with black burn soon enough
Been there two years and no real issues with neds , 1 minor issues with a bottle of cheery brandy being smashed on my drive apart from that nothing really .
Usual amounts of break in and thefts , usually unlocked sheds is the issue
The train station is 2019 so not any time soon
Anything else give me a shout

I'm about 3 miles from Insch but it's the nearest village and has decent facilities:
Good size co-op
Cost cutter
Baker
Butcher
Leisure centre / gym
One dodgy pub (and another on the way)
Good Turkish
Ok chippy
Ok Indian
Chinese due to open
Ok golf course
Train station
No petrol station any more which is a PITA.

I'm originally from Inverurie, house prices are expensive, it's expanded at a rapid rate and the roads can't handle it (gridlock most afternoons).
There's a lot of hairdressers for some reason?
Not a lot in Kintore, but petrol stations nearby and some good roads. The Silver Bird Chinese (don't know if it's still open was pretty good).
Daily commute from Insch to Aberdeen wouldn't be my first choice, from Inverurie was bad enough, unless you're an early bird!

Sliver bird is still open but not sure if its going to get demolished with all the new supermarkets and what not
The Kintore tandoori is good as is the chipper
Suppose to be building a academy as well but the last green space is earmarked for that , amazing when Martin Ford is the local councillor
Backroads mean you can be in dyce in 15 mins or it takes me 15 mins to get home from westhill at 4ish

I've lived in Kintore for 10 years, after moving out the the city due to house prices (wanting a bigger house and garden than we could afford in the city).
As other people have said, there isn't a lot of local facilities other than a local mini supermarket, chipper, Chinese takeaway, Indian takeaway, Heavenly Pizza, Peerie Pantry (cafe) does good bacon rolls and homebakes. Inverurie has more choice in facilities, but is only a 5 minute drive away and you don't have the hassle of gridlock getting out or back home during peak rush hour. The Boars Head Tandoori in Kinmuck (10 mins drive) is very good for a sit down meal, and also does takeways which are better than the local one, but a few £ more expensive.
You can now get BT Infinity 2 fibre broadband (80mb down, 20mb up)
Generally very quiet, with little through traffic with no problem from neds & boy racers etc. Crime rate generally very low, apart from the occasional unlocked shed or garage.
Lots of places to buy cars
Plenty of open spaces and nearby forests for walks, cycling etc, park for football, cricket and kids playpark area.
One or possibly two supermarkets have been approved, and the train station has been promised in a few years time. When the AWPR gets completed in 2017, you should be able to reach Stonehaven for heading south in about 20 - 25 minutes, and Black Dog (for heading north) in about 15 minutes
At peak times, the commute via the B997 to Bridge of Don is about 25 minutes door to door, 15 minutes to Westhill, 20 minutes to Kingswells and about 45 minutes to the centre of town depending on the route chosen. Bus (generally every 15 to 20 minutes during the day) takes about 60 - 80 minutes at peak times, about 40 minutes on the last bus home at night if you have been out on town.
Be aware that there's currently no pub in the village, since the Kintore Arms was sold in July, and the new owners haven't opened it back up again or seem to have done anything with it.

I lived there for a few years a while back. Really liked the place but split up with the girlfriend and it was a long way out for single life.
Gym and swimming are available at Thainstone House - pool was a bit run down but the gym was superb and only five mins drive.
Beware the bus service is (was?) abysmal. Every third inverurie bus or something was scheduled to come through kintore. If they were running a few minutes late they would just bypass it. Could go well over an hour without seeing one. An age when standing in the cold on the way into town.
Taxis were best served by Allways in Inverurie. They used to collect me from town if you asked nicely. I guess you know you're out too much when the drivers know where you live before you can tell them.
Funny, they were talking about reopening a train station back then, and that was over ten years ago. Seems an obvious solution to reducing the traffic at the airport roundabout really.

I believe Chop Chop have bought the pub so the chances of it re-opening as a pub would be slim and it may turn out like the 'Brigger' in Port Elphinstone. So possible no pub but an extra take away...! I see there is a nice big castle for sale in kintore area at the moment, looks great and a bargain!

Last I heard the sale to Chop Chop fell through and the owner of Beekies Neuk bought it, but that could just be another rumour...Gassing Station | Scotland | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
