According to Kevin Bridges, it's "c**t fae Edinburgh".
Was speaking to someone offshore the other day who claimed that "gadgie" is an old gypsy word for someone who enjoys the company of prostitutes. How much truth there is in that, I do not know!
It's true that it's of gypsy origin, not sure about the prostitute connection though! It was also prevalent in the Borders where I lived for a while; a 'barry gadgie' was a 'good chap'.Was speaking to someone offshore the other day who claimed that "gadgie" is an old gypsy word for someone who enjoys the company of prostitutes.
