Just been to drop my dad at a concert at the SSE Hydro.

Bloody nightmare of traffic, very badly designed route that seems to basically be a semi circle that runs past the Hydro with lights at both ends. And traffic gridlocked all over.

But I am wondering why the Squiggly bridge hasn't been fully reopened since I assume the Commonwealth Games? They have shut off one side of the bridge so instead of it being two lanes each way, there is onky one lane.

Anyone any reason why?

It's going to be part of the extended bus lane setup.

Nice idea. But .....

IMO Glasgow city centre is now becoming a pooly signed and marked vindictive fortress and attempting to find new ways to exclude and impede and fine cars at every opportunity.

And I suspect they never really wanted cars to use the Squinty Bridge in the first place .....

Just a guess, but maybe the accident in George Square has had smething to do with traffic problems all over the city centre?

Not really, it just made a bad situation worse. There's a new "bus and taxi gate" to stop cars approaching George square, which was put in place for the commonwealth games. It's been such a great money spinner, sorry, traffic management success that it's still in place.

Built to allow the luvvies at the BBC to commute from the leafy west end to(gasp!) south of the river when they shifted from Queen Margaret Drive.

Bingo! It also helped persuade them (the BBC) to stay in Glasgow and not go to Edinburgh.

Is it not earmarked for the Fastlink to the new Southern General opening in May?

The connection with the BBC was that the planning consent to build the PQ offices required the the bridge to be built. Had that not been the case, then the BBC would have moved many years, if not decades, earlier. Also the hotel development currently being built is a long delayed project that, along with the media village, would never have happened.

Why the strange traffic arrangements? I thought it was the Commonwealth games, but, as it was never used for that, maybe the Southern General clear access to the city center is correct (although it is signposted buses only).

As 6C4GTS says - it's the Fastlink scheme.

Glasgow Council got jealous of the mess caused by the Edinburgh trams and figured they could create the disruption for car users but for a lot less money.

It does seem Glasgow council hates cars.
this Fastlink system seems to priority over all cars even at traffic lights. So much for a democratic society . Why don't they just be honest and tell it like it , its as if we motorist already pay through the nose to finance other areas of our society rolleyes
