Morning all,

We're moving to a new house next week which has a 1000 litre tank, there is about 150 litres left, so will need topped up shortly, don't want to get caught short over the winter.

This oil business is all new to us, who are the most reliable and cheapest suppliers around Aberdeenshire? (15 miles West of Aberdeen).

Thanks in advance.

Graeme

A big +1 to the above, avoid bolerjuice!

Gleaner have be crap over the cold spell and were quoting 2-3weeks to get oil, but were fine back in November.

We ran out over christmas foolishly and Rix came out the next day to give us a 20l emergency container then the following day with another 600l to get us going again. I didn't bother using the 20l as our line was already airlocked and with the 2500l tank, 20l wouldn't get us going again.

Used Conon Bros last week and their service was also great and the cheapest around.

Consider a Smart Thermostat if you're away during the day and would like to control your heating. We use TADO and it's a brilliant bit of kit. Set a load of different programs for each day, turn on/off from your smartphone app of PC and let it also use your Smartphone GPS location to overide things if you're close to getting home, leave the house quickly, or are just sitting at home when the schedule says it should be off.

Not Aberdeenshire, but I've always found Rix to be the lowest price, and I comparison-shop about 8 different suppliers.

Top tip

most tanks have 50 litrs or so of un pumpable oil

If you are deeply in the poop lift the tank up at the end without the tap and stick a brick under it

This will give you a day or two of running AND a crap load of garbage into the filter

We run two tanks

I run a tank until empty and then pump the rest out into 25 ltr drums

If clean i put it into the full tank

If dirty i use it to help burn chicken bedding

I then clean the tank out occasionally before refilling

Also based in Alford, used Brogans for years but the past few fills have been with Rix who were a fair bit cheaper than the rest bunch.
Companies will quote their price per litre with or without VAT so dont get caught out.

Turriff Fuels are good if you're in the north of Aberdeenshire. We've had same-day service since moving to their locality and prices are very fair.

Haha, I was considering doing this but worried about shafting the filter or worse, so we just huddled around an electric heater for a day whilst wearing as much as we could.

Keep the fuel clean and it helps solve many many other issues

Also if you get some water in the bottom of the tank then it can turn bug tastic with snot blocking everything up

I always phone round different places, they can vary quite considerably in price. For example, i just got fuel from oilfast for 34.9p, compared to the highest quotes which were way over 40p.

I must say, I've found Brogan to be expensive - often as much as 8-10p more than the cheapest. 1000 litres is quite a small tank, ours is 1800 but in hindsight i would have rather fitted a larger one. Remember you get a lower price for orders over 1000 litres too. If you're planning on staying there for a while it might be worth changing.

I work for the guys that own this company and can add that you won't get better service than they deliver.

The guys who owned Brogans sold the business a few years ago, took some time out and then started up Oilfast. Pretty much all of the good members of staff have now re-joined the new company due to them being much better people to work for.
