Hi folks,

My wife is taking me to St. Andrew's for a couple of days next week as a pre-birthday treat and I was wondering where you would recommend for dinner.

We last visited a couple of years ago and not having done any research beforehand, we ended up in the Grill House which I didn't really enjoy.

Open to suggestions for a nice dinner - not set on one particular cuisine so fire away.

Rocca Restaurant @ Rusack's Hotel. Jamie Scott, MasterChef Professional winner.2014

The Adamson. Scott Ritchie. Masterchef Professional Runner Up 2013

Vine Leaf. Morag Hamilton - been around for a long time & consistently high standards. Very popular with locals in the know.

The Seafood Restaurant - great views and food.

Old Course Road Hole Restaurant - Top floor and everything you would expect from the name & location

Thanks for the recommendations. I had a look on Trip Advisor and whilst some of the places look lovely, I know I would still be starving afterwards!

I've created a lunch/dinner list of possibilities:

Doll's House
Playfriar’s
The Supper Room at the Russell Hotel 26 The Scores
Forgan’s
Balgove Larder
Rascal’s Bar
Dunvegan Hotel
Jahangir
Maisha

I really fancied the seafood restaurant with its lovely views but the reviews aren't great.

The only one I've been to on your list is Rascal's. Food was really good, sports bar style surroundings but good atmosphere.

Now part of G1 group, along with the Glass House, Grill House, The Vic, Forgans and Mitchell's :-( He's taking over St Andrews........

As I said, playfairs is excellent, but am also told the Cellar in Anstruther is superb.

Don't know how Rocca fares but the bar is lovely

We recently ate in the Road Hole restaurant at the old course, seven course tasting menu with matching wine was superb. Lots of enjoyable banter with the hotel staff, a great evening. One comment I would make about the seafood restaurant is I spent time in A&E getting treated for food poisoning. I told them about it but they weren't interested. I won't be going back there again. The Thai restaurant at the end of market street is also well worth a visit.

Rocca Restaurant would be my first choice!
Lovely food and great location overlooking the 18th hole of the Old Course and the Master Chef Prof winner 2015 is in the kitchen!

P.S. The owner is a serious petrol head. smile

I would need to eat a meal before going though lol I do appreciate high quality food but no matter how nice it tastes and looks, if I'm still hungry by the end of it, I'd have regrets.

McDonald's it is lol

Don't worry, the owner is Italian so you can have antipasto then pasta followed by main course then sweet/cheese and if you are still hungry then you if you keep eating like that you won't fit into your Abarth! wink

Well after a lovely break away I thought I'd post up for the benefit of others who may have a trip to St. Andrews planned.

Rascals was great for lunch - I particularly enjoyed my pulled pork burger.

Had cocktails in the Vic but they tasted like non-alcoholic versions - much better in the West Port Bar and Kitchen.

The Doll's House was a big letdown from start to finish to be honest. Food was average and service poor.

Had an Indian last night in Jahangir Tandoor - quite pricey but huge portions and tasty at that.

So many places to try and so little time!

Haven't eaten in the Jigger, only had drinks. Reviews seem to be quite mixed but might give it a try next time.

I'm sorry that I missed the boat before you went, but FWIW the steak that I had at Balgove was absolutely fantastic... highly recommended.

Cheers,
