I'm sorry that I missed the boat before you went, but FWIW the steak that I had at Balgove was absolutely fantastic... highly recommended.

Cheers,
Grant
We popped down to suss it out but apparently the steak house is only open from Easter until September. The pics on Trip Advisor do look good however.

Rocca Restaurant @ Rusack's Hotel. Jamie Scott, MasterChef Professional winner.2014

The Adamson. Scott Ritchie. Masterchef Professional Runner Up 2013

Vine Leaf. Morag Hamilton - been around for a long time & consistently high standards. Very popular with locals in the know.

The Seafood Restaurant - great views and food.

Old Course Road Hole Restaurant - Top floor and everything you would expect from the name & location
Listen to this chap, He obviously knows St Andrews as well as me!

Avoid ALL the chain & franchise restaurants, there's so many of them popping up in St Andrews trying to appear 'independent' - but they are far from it! Its a shame such a nice place is filled with so many rubbish places to eat.

Also Balgove steak barn in the summer is an awesome experience.

Thanks for the recommendations. I had a look on Trip Advisor and whilst some of the places look lovely, I know I would still be starving afterwards!

I've created a lunch/dinner list of possibilities:

Doll's House
Playfriar’s
The Supper Room at the Russell Hotel 26 The Scores
Forgan’s
Balgove Larder
Rascal’s Bar
Dunvegan Hotel
Jahangir
Maisha

I really fancied the seafood restaurant with its lovely views but the reviews aren't great.
Strongly recommend Maisha. Lovely little place.

Mr Rouf's Balaka has also always been a firm favourite.

We actually sat down and subsequently left Maisha. The initial welcome was rubbish and it was hot to the extreme inside. They did offer to open a window or seat us upstairs but we decided to try Jahangir instead which was more expensive but tasty.
