I'm on the Aberdeen - Edinburgh - Aberdeen run frequently. The last few weeks the police "discreet" presence has increased hugely. I agree that there is a need for a presence given the nature of the road between Aberdeen and Dundee. However I don't
believe for one minute that this is the reason for their increased interest and efforts. They'll be wearing DPM's next!

Saw an Audi S4 get collared the other week southbound just past forfar.

I was overtaking a lorry and this guy came blasting up behind me. I pulled back in and he shot past. I thought 'my hero' to myself as we went on his way. Not long after that I spot an unmarked car hoof it up a slip road and chase him. I saw them both a couple of miles down the road stopped. That never happens does it?!

The amount of cameras on the Aberdeen - Dundee stretch is taking the piss as it is without additional vans too. I think I counted over 90 crossings over the carriageways one day from Dundee to Aberdeen. Fix that first. That and some of the road looks like a cross between a patchwork quilt and camouflage. I'm from the west coast near Ayr, you definitely see a decline in the roads the further north you get. Years of under investment and poor planning IMO.

How is it taking the piss? Just put the cruise on 75mph and relax. You might like to be doing 90 between the cameras but usually make very little progress due to traffic.

Good radio show / podcast / audiobook - sorted.

Exactly this. I run Dundee-Abz regularly in various hire cars and hate when one doesnt have cruise control, takes much more concentration to keep the speed legal.

Always humours me when folk go whizzing by at 90+ then brake in front of me to 65 through the cameras....

There was couple of vans northbound on Friday afternoon.

On Sunday evening there was a few highway patio cars stopping people. Most Sunday nights in see people getting pulled.

Must admit I drive this road 4-5 times a week and have done so for almost 7 years. The standard of driving is poor but acceptable, apart from Monday am and Friday pm when it just becomes Wacky Races.

I would happily see more camera vans and traffic police on Mondays and Fridays.....as that is when most accidents are!

Don't get me wrong.....I have been done twice by camera vans.....both at 81mph (hmmmm, suspicious!) but I think visible presence might help....no, wait a minute, the number of people who slam on the brakes and slow to 60mph when they see a camera van proves it is just stupid people!!! Get rid of them and we are laughing!

So, do what I do, stick the cruise control on and hope you remember that small section where it drops to 50!!!

I drove to Aberdeen on Tuesday morning and there's a right hand bend into the 50 mph limit (where the limit starts and way before the Gatso) and as I turned the bend I noticed a scamera van sitting behind the Gatso obviously catching people as they slow down round that bend approaching the 50 mph zone.

That's just downright sneaky and that sort of behavious is why so few peole have any respect for speed camera vans.

Thankfully, south bound motorists were flashing like Blackpool illuminations to warn others!

They are just gathering 'statistics' prior to installing average speed scameras - oh and making some cash in the process.

Forgive me if I've misinterpreted where the bit of road you're talking about is but there is a big problem with people doing 70 right up to the speed camera which is right by the junction and then slamming on the anchors to do 50 past the camera (then booting it back up to 70) and this makes it much more difficult than it needs to be for people to pull out of said junction. I'm not saying that speeding there and then slowing right down for the camera is an accident risk but I can see how it would be a nuisance to driver's waiting at the junction and I think the 50 zone is very much justified after a number of fatal accidents at that particular spot so have no sympathy at all for anybody caught there only just before the camera.

There was quite a few on the road today.

Southbound about 1 mile after the 50mph zone the police were hiding in a raised entry to a farmer's field.

You wouldn't be able to see them until it was too late.

Yes - I saw the police there and you're right that they were well-hidden.

I counted four scamera vans when heading northbound this morning and two southbound late afternoon plus those with the handheld plus a marked Volvo estate on thr prowl.

If that's not overkill then I don't know what is. rolleyes
