I assume the Western Newbridge site takes the territory of AC's old Livi site.
Macklin are taking the Glasgow Nissan territories (can assume this will cover the AC Linwood territory)
Western are opening in Stirling- AC Nissan Stirling and SDM Nissan Falkirk territory.
John Clark in Perth- Dundee is also an area of strength for JC Group so they may open there. Mackie Motors holds a Nissan franchise in Angus.

Someone in another thread said John Clark had bought the old Western Alfa/Saab site at Edinburgh Road, Perth and were relocating Thomson and Potter Skoda from Blairgowrie to there and adding a Seat franchise, are we to assume this is incorrect and they've actually acquired the ex Western site for a Nissan dealership or are they planning all 3 franchises there (seems a bit too small a site for that)

In other Arnold's news:

http://www.arnoldclark.com/kemnay/

Not sure if this means the closure/loss of Fiat franchise at the current Aberdeen Lang Stracht Fiat/Kia site or in addition to it.

Just another wee update:

Arnold Clark Linwood Nissan is changing to a Citroen franchise, they've started the fit out of the showroom, with Citroen branded desks etc and its all new Citroen's in the showroom, directly in front of the showroom is all 64 plate are reg Citroens like DS3, new model C1s, C4s etc and the sales guy I spoke to confirms the Nissan signage comes down at the end of the month and Citroen signs go up, they cannot supply any new Nissans, and are effectively already a Citroen dealer.

Quite surprising really as 6 years ago Arnold Clark binned Citroen in Renfrewshire and 8 years ago their previous Citroen Linwood dealership was moved to Paisley so VW could moce into their site, all due to poor sales of Citroen when I worked there.

Citroen has posted strong sales since then with the DS models helping. I wonder if AC will fill the open point for Citroen in South-Side of Glasgow. That territory has been open since Phoenix had to ditch Citroen on moving to the west end.

Did Phoenix not ditch Citroen at Aikenhead Road a couple of years before moving to the West end? around 2004/5 I think, then changed the Aikenhead Road site to Kia and Suzuki, they kept that open until just after installing Kia and Suzuki at the Dumbarton Road Honda site in 2007, a woman I worked with had an 07 plate Swift she bought from Aikenhead Road in 08. I doubt Citroen sales are strong enough to justify 2 Glasgow sites.

The sales boy at Linwood Nissan said they took on Citroen because it was the only franchise Arnold or anyone else didn't represent in Renfrewshire that was worth having, aside from obviously prestige which folk are willing to travel to Glasgow for.

At the time I worked for Arnold's original Citroen Linwood dealership (2006/07) before the franchise was moved to Vardys Fiat Renfrew Rd Paisley, Eddie Hawthorne himself said that due to the message Citroen Glasgow were making of the franchise at that time not only were Citroen happy to let Arnold relocate their franchise but that they might even acquire Citroen Glasgow. That never happened but I'm led to believe that Citroen Glasgow are going to be majorly refurbishing their site and that Robins and Day Peugeot located behind Citroen Glasgow (both owned by Peugeot Citroen UKs in house dealer group) is being moved from its current premises to the same site as Citroen, so maybe Arnold is waiting until that's all completed before buying up both sites.

Peugeot/Citroen used to use their in house dealer group to rescue failed dealerships meaning that the group ended up in a bit of a mess. The group has slimmed down and now aims to represent the two marques in key city markets. If they keep this strategy, I doubt they will be looking to sell either site in Glasgow.

Does that mean Jeep/Chrysler and Alfa then for Linwood? Have heard Western advertising their West St dealership on Clyde 1 over last week or so.

Western on West Street is just a tiny satellite site with a 1 car showroom within the Lexus Glasgow dealership. Its possible Arnold Clark could be making an FCA (Fiat Chrysler automobiles) brand site at Linwood so thatd be Fiat, Alfa and Jeep and possibly Abarth, they are already planning similar in Leeds and Kemnay, probably not Chrysler though, a lot of newly opened Jeep sites are just Jeep or Jeep and another Fiat brand but not Chrysler. The question regardless of what franchise goes into the showroom originally built for Chevrolet is with it being a standalone showroom with no aftersales facilities, what are they going to do about that/what branch's workshop and parts department are they going to use for this franchise (the plan when it was built was that Vauxhall and Chevrolet would use the Vauxhall branch's workshops, with both brands being GM)

Had it confirmed by salesman I bought a car from at Linwood Vauxhall Arnold Clark on Friday that Jeep/Alfa is going into the Chevrolet showroom and that it will be part of the Vauxhall dealership, they will run it, Vauxhall sales guys will sell the Jeeps and Alfas too etc.

Royston Rd Nissan had a few used Toyotas in the showroom when I passed the other day, not sure if they'd become a Toyota franchise though, as Arnold already runs Toyota franchises nearby in Bishopbriggs and Mount Vernon

Was that not the site that was becoming a used Mini outlet? Nissan Stirling site is not looking a bit more like a car dealership... https://www.facebook.com/WesternNissan/photos/a.49...

No, I think that when Pollokshaws Renault moves to Hillington then Kilmarnock Rd VW is moving to there and the Kilmarnock Rd site is becoming used Mini sales as that site is round the corner from the current new and used Mini sales and BMW/Mini after sales centre on Burnfield Road.

The list of Nissan dealer locations on the John Clark website now includes Dundee - think the address is where their current Skoda dealer is located.

Went past the former Saab site on Edinburgh Rd, Perth which did have signs up saying it was changing to T&P Skoda / Seat. Don't know if the Seat sign has fallen off or been taken down but only the Skoda one remains. Could they have changed their mind and are going for Skoda / Nissan?

Stirling and Dundee have been removed from Arnold Clark's list of Nissan dealerships on their website, leaving just Linwood, Glasgow South Street, Glasgow Royston Road and Dumbarton Nissan Service Centre listing.

Dundee John Clark already lists on Nissan UK website as the dealer in that area.

Arnold Clark's site has also been updated to show Stirling Craigleith Rd as a Citroen only dealership, and Hyundai now lists as a separate dealership on Kerse Rd.

Someone on the Nissan Juke owners forum has had a letter from Arnold informing them of the franchise termination at the end of the month, stating that all Arnold Clark Nissan branches will be refurbished and refranchised to a different manufacturer with the exception of Perth which will become a Motorstore.

So we know Perth is Motorstore, Stirling is Hyundai and Linwood will become Citroen, which leaves Dundee, South Street and Royston Rd to be refranchised, as Dundee is multi franchise (Fiat, Kia, Ford and Jeep) I doubt they'll be in a rush to put another brand in the Nissan showroom, South Street is also the same also being multi franchise (Motorstore, Ford and Mazda) however Royston Rd will gain a new franchise pretty quickly I'd think as its a standalone Nissan franchise. Dumbarton probably won't change as its a Renault dealership and hasn't had the Nissan sales franchise for over 3 years, its been an aftersales Nissan only dealer since early 2012 but still with a showroom full of nearly new Nissan along with the new Renault showroom.

I'm also not sure if they will remain authorised Nissan aftersales franchises elsewhere if another franchise isn't appointed, e.g. at Linwood I can't see the space for a new Nissan franchise to go, but they'll need a local place for Nissan dealers in Paisley, Greenock and elsewhere in Renfrewshire to get parts, servicing and warranty work done, can't see them expecting folk to travel to Macklin in Darnley or even to Parks in Irvine.

I guess it depends where in Glasgow Macklin have their new dealerships.

I used to work at the Dundee site - I would imagine they'll move Fiat or Kia into the former Nissan showroom, as currently Fiat, Kia and Jeep are all in the one showroom, with Ford and Nissan having one each to themselves. Would make sense to move Kia up to the Nissan building and have FCA brands in one building together.

John Clark has taken both Seat and Nissan in Dundee now. Good to see AC getting a bit more competition in these areas.
