Me and Mrs Chimp are heading through to Glasgow tomorrow.

We are staying in the citizenM for 2 nights as we have Lionel Richie gig in the Hydro tomorrow and Spandau Ballet in Hydro on Sunday.

This means we have Saturday during the day and night free, as well as Sunday during the day.

The car is getting left in Buchanan Galleries car park so I don't want anywhere we need to drive to, but i'm looking for things to see and do, and places to eat/drink.

I thought about the gallery of modern art in Queen St for a wee while on Sat, maybe Princes Sq for a neb. Maybe Science Museum on Sunday.

Been told Merchant City good for food.

Anything absolutely brilliant that we are missing out on by not going to?

Cheers,
Chimp the Edinbugger

The Riverside (transport) museum is very good (don't eat there).

The Science museum isn't a museum at all its a science 'centre' 11 quid a head, entertaining, more so if you have kids (or are a big kid).

The Macintosh light house is worth a visit, if only to go up the tower for 10 mins and look at the view (free, side alley off buchanan st) if you are arty types you will enjoy it even more.

Museum of modern art is good, check what shows are on atm, there was one on 3d printing around now which sounded cool.

Botanic gardens are very good, make sure you go in the glass house, as is Byres road for lunch or dinner. 7 mins on the low level 2 quid return from central or queen st to partick then a walk up the hill to the gardens. very pleasant if dry. Recommended.

Glasgow is really nice and jealous of the second gig your going to but for place to go, the Gallery Of Modern Art is nice way to kill some time. just having a look around and it's also where the tribute to the December 23rd accident is. also check out the hard rock cafe its got tones of memorabilia in it and if you ask the staff they can show you upstairs too where there is even more. and then the usual shops restaurants walkabouts is good near the cinema on Sauchiehall Street.

hope you enjoy your weekend down there. smile

For food you MUST try the Market Kitchen on West Nile Street - just a few hundred yards from your hotel.

If in Glasgow you MUST MUST MUST if at all possible try and go to "grill Rom at bar 29" fantastic place, the fillet steak is to die for. We do a trip down from Aberdeenshire a few times a year just to go there. smile

You've got a load of recommendations already but I recently went here and it's one of the best dining experiences I've had in Glasgow in a long while - classy but not pretentious if you want to impress the missus, and the steaks were perfect.

If you like Indian food try India Quay Restaurant opposite the squinty bridge and across the road from the Hydro .The owner Pardeep is a fellow petrol head and hosts a monthly curry night for PH and Tartan Tarmac forum guys .If you go say you are a fellow Pistonhead forum user and he will treat you to some amazing dishes.

Thanks for all the info/recommendations guys.

Mrs Chimp and I had the most amazing weekend, thoroughly chilled out.

We had the Lionel Richie gig at the Hydro Friday, then Sat we went shopping, visited GOMA, stopped off at the beer cafe in Merchant Square for a pie & pint and walked along to the People's Palace for a bit.

We didn't appreciate how busy the eateries are in Glasgow on a Saturday night, but we ended up in Gourmet Burger Kitchen and the food was actually really nice.

Yesterday, a bit more retail followed by a couple of drinks in Walkabout watching the football then finished with the Spandau Ballet gig in the Hydro last night.

CitizenM was as quirky as ever but gave us a handy central base and Mrs Chimp had a great weekend after some tough times recently so thanks again for the pointers.
