Keen to try my first trackday this year at Knockhill. Is tuition available at these events or is this something the circuit does separately before you take to the track.
Not looking to set any lap records etc, just keen to have fun.

They offer various driving experiences. You could just book for a tracknight and get out there for about 70 quid for 2 hours in your car. Some nights are quieter than others.

Yes, phone them up, quite often they can arrange to get you out on track for a morning when nothing else is on, perhaps a little less daunting than one of their busier track days when you'll have some hero no doubt riding your bumper whilst you get the hang of things! Enjoy.

Some track day organisers arrange to have instructors available so it can be worth checking with whoever is organising the event you're looking to attend. A friend of mine has published a book for which there is a companion FB site so you might like to check that out too - https://www.facebook.com/gloveboxguide

tuition wise some trackdays have the option of it but if you want to go the whole hog you can take your car up and when hardly anyone else is there they can take you round. I think its called performance driving and heard good things about it.

I have taken the performance driving course. It is a huge amount of fun and very educational. 25 laps of tuition and exploring the capabilities of your car and your driving.

That's great, thanks for all the responses, I might give KH a call and ask about that.
I see there's an evening session on May 18th, that might be a good first try at it?
Just a bit concerned as my car won't be the fastest thing around there and speed differential with others might be alarming eek but really keen to have a try at it.

I did that too, highly recommended. I haven't gotten round to doing any track days yet but the idea is far less daunting having been round the track with someone who knows their stuff first.

I went along for a Performance Driving Course in my own car a few years ago before my first track day. Here's the page for it on their site - http://driving-experience.knockhill.com/experience...

It was good to get instruction on the lines and general tips on how to drive well to get the best out of your car. I think it only lasted about 1 hour though so pretty expensive when you can get on an open pit day for about the same price. I'd say it's worth it though if you are unsure about just going along.

Also don't worry about being slow. Overtaking is only allowed on the straights on track days so basically you can take a race line through the corners and enjoy yourself and then just pull over to let faster cars past on the straight.

The problem comes when you get more confidence and start taking the corners flat out, you find yourself being held up by quicker cars being driven slower through the bends but you cant get past them on the straights!

So I can expect you in the next day Lewis, for tyres, shocks, brakes and wishbones? wink

Hehe not sure James, would like to use the car on road too without it being rock hard. I'll know after my first track outing how hopeless it is on standard shocks/brakes etc laugh

Maybe they wouldn't be happy with a BMW interloper shoot

Sorry for the late reply - I was overseas for a few weeks when this topic was first posted.

Absolutely no problems with BMWs taking part. I think we had 6 taking part on Saturday morning, which was a very wet event!

We did have just as many Imprezas taking part this time, plus some other nice cars smile

Had a really enjoyable evening, hope I wasn't too much of a roadblock for some of the faster stuff.

Yes, it was pretty wet to start with but did dry out a bit.

I really enjoyed it, car was faultless- never missed a beat/no brake problems as I'd feared. There was some quick cars on track but think I managed to keep out of the way and still have fun.
